See Death Row still has that street aura about it. And that is something that alot of artists are looking for. They do not want to be a processed pop star that the labels want to see. And Jive is basically a pop label now. They keep a UGK, Petey Pablo and Clipse in the event they blow up they want a piece of the pie.

Look at Bun B, he kept UGK's buzz going when Pimp C was in jail. Now I would go as far to say they will at least go gold. Rap-A-Lot was trying to sign them for years, but Jive kept them tied up in that contract. If Jay Z says that is one of his favorites groups, it has got to be something. Same situation with Clipse and Pharrell. As far as Petey goes I think it is a combination of the aura of Death Row and wanting to get out of that Jive contract. But he has already been a successful artist so they are not going to let Suge get a chunk of the profit off possibly blowing up on a double album.

So they will not drop the album on the strength he will get tired and leave Suge just to get the album out. But at this point all Death Row has is a memory. So to kick start that label Suge needs a established artist but Jive is not going to allow that to be Petey. Now his buzz is dead and even if he did drop something it would have to be with another established artist to get his buzz going again. Just my 2 cents.

Fair enough... I think it's safe to say that Petey's buzz is dead right now but with a new club/radio friendly single that could change, with or without D.R. On the other hand IF he was allowed to drop that Jive/D.R. double album I'm sure that alone will be enough to get the buzz going again...

I hate when labels do shit like that and even if Suge was or is sincere about trying to help a artist like Petey out, he is blackballed in the industry. So the artist also suffers. Like I said, Petey already has the hits so it ain't even a question if he can make one. Jive just wants all that money for themselves.

True and on point... Suge is being blackballed for years now and the people that associate themselves with him suffer the same fate. Look at Warlord and Big LOS, the new Warlord mixtape is already being labelled as a Last One Standing Entertainment (Big LOS' company) presentation and NOT a D.R. one and I'm not sure what's the deal with Lakey The Kid and Delson (Death Row East) either... As a loyal fan however I'm keeping the faith and patiently wait on whatever happens. Jive clearly wants all the money for themselves but even if this wasn't a money issue, what major record company out there would want to do business with Suge and D.R.??

True, and Suge tried the indie thing for a while but for whatever reason it has not worked out. And that would probably be the only way Suge could prove to the major labels that he can make a comeback. Go indie for a while, make some money and then try to sign to a major distributor. But with all the legal troubles I do not know if he can even do that.

It's his own fault for signing with Death Row. It doesn't take a genius to know that's not the ideal situation for any artist right now. Serves him right.

I agree. His career was finally taking off (after "Freak-A-Leak" and "Goodies"), then he decides to go to Death Row? Career suicide. He should've called Crooked I first.

Again sad but true... The only thing Suge needs is talent and a major distributor (Anyone remembers those Lyor/Warner Bros rumors?). 2002 could have been the return of Tha Row, I mean Suge was fresh outta jail (great for promotional purposes), he had Crook, Kurupt, Danny Boy, Michel'le, Boo-Yaa Tribe, Eastwood, they were on the cover of magazines, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes had just signed, Crook's So Damn Hood with Sisqo had just dropped on Hot 97, Jadakiss, Juvenile and other non West Coast artists were cool with Suge etc etc... Still nothing became of it... In all honesty, I think it's Suge and D.R.'s notoriety that got them blackballed by the industry, ain't no self respecting White major record company wanna get themselves aligned with a label whose CEO is supposedly a MOB Piru and a suspect in the 2Pac/Biggie murder case. Just look at all the "information" that got out since Suge went to jail back in '97, Death Row Records is just TOO controversial for any major distributor and that's that even without considering all of the recent legal troubles.

I'm not gonna front, signing with D.R. is a bold move but first of all Petey got with D.R. late '04 way before the legal troubles and secondly he isn't really signed, Suge serves as his manger that's it.

If he's not really signed to the label then why is Jive holding up the release of his album? I don't know if having Suge as your manager is any better though. Suge has been and always will be associated with Death Row, which is clearly affecting Petey's current label situation.

You just answered your own question... I think that Same Eyez On Me album would have done fairly well considering the buzz of that '04 Ciara single Goodies which Petey was featured on, as soon as he got with D.R. however it became a definte no-no for for them fine folks over at Jive.

You'd think that Petey would have considered any possible consequences of associating with Suge. I don't blame Jive for not wanting to deal with him. I wouldn't want to deal with Suge either.

Yeah look how fucked up Snoops and Dres Careers turned out  ??? I really dont think Suge is that bad of a Guy its fucked up that the industry has blackballed him from makin any moves he has the feds on his ass and dont forget all the legal problems lawsuits you name it. basically Im saying nobody can deny that Suge is a good business man. Really really bad luck Death Row was a happy family before Pac died the Suge got locked up and everyone jumped ship.

Keep it movin
