Here's Some Info From Vitiligocure.com

What Is It?:

Vitiligo is more commonly known as leucoderma, which simply means white (leuco) skin (derma), i.e. a skin disorder where it looses its normal coloration. It is also medically known as achromia, which means loss of color.

Basically, Vitiligo can hardly be called as a disease but a skin- disorder that has more social than medical significance, especially amongst the dark skin people. Due to retarded melanin formation, there is loss of pigmentation.

The vitiligo sufferers are observed all over the world, including the white skin communities. However, epidemiologically most cases are recorded in India (8.8%) and Mexico. Males and females are affected equally, inclusive of children age group. It may begin at any age. Childhood vitiligo is not uncommon.

What Causes It?:

The exact cause for the pigmentary disorder remains unknown. However, there are theories suggesting autoimmune link, hormonal connection, genetic tendencies, etc. The familial incidence is almost 20 to 30%. Often observed in the family members. If the parents have Vitiligo, there are more chances of one developing the same. However, it is not a rule. At the same time, numerous cases of vitiligo do not have a relevant family history of Vitiligo.

Features:

The typical appearance of Vitiligo is a milky while depigmented spot or spots. It may vary from a single white spot to multiple spots. The shape too is a variable. In some cases generalized de-pigmentation observed all over the body. It has a tendency to start as a single spot and gradually grow in size and number. It may present with a single or several spots on limbs or abdomen or back and then spreading to other parts of the body. Some cases showing affection of the mucocutaneous junctions such as finger-tips, corners of the mouth, private parts, around eyes. The spread of the disorder is usually slow and progressive. Symmetrical appearance on both the side of the body
(say, on the legs, hands, etc.) is common. In rare cases one finds vitiligo spreading all over the body.

Here's some Pictures, You Guys HAVE Seen People With This Before, I Know I Have.

Here's A Treatment Option (That Apparently Mike Took) From www.avrf.org (The American Vitiligo Research Foundation.  Can You Imagine Being Faced With This Choice, If You're A Black Man?

----------------------------------------------------------

Topical Creams To Remove Normal Skin Pigment And Unify Skin Color

The goal of depigmentation is to unify skin color in patients with vitiligo virtually all over the body and those who have failed PUVA, who cannot use PUVA, or who reject the PUVA option. Bleaching with monobenzylether of hydroquinone 20% cream (Benoquin) is a permanent, irreversible process. Since application of Benoquin may be associated with distant depigmentation, Benoquin cannot be used to selectively to bleach certain areas of normal pigmentation, because there is a real likelihood that new and distant white macules will develop over the months of use. Bleaching with Benoquin normally requires twice-daily possible side effects. Uncommonly, contact dermatitis is observed. The success rate is about 93%. Periodically following sun exposure, an occasional patient will observe focal repigmentation, which will require a month or so of local use of Benoquin to reverse.

The end-stage color of skin bleached with Benoquin is the same chalk-white as the vitiligo macules. Most patients are quite satisfied with uniformity and the finality of the results. An occasional patient may wish to take 30 to 60 mg beta-carotene to impart on off-white color to the skin. The only side effect of beta-carotene is the uncommon risk of diarrhea.

Patients who undergo bleaching are at risk for sunburn. They should avoid midday sun exposure and should use a high-SPF sunscreen.

Here's More From www.AVRF.org, American Vitiligo Research Foundation....

Why Is It Important To Treat Vitiligo?

Many physicians, and even some dermatologists, fail to recognize the profound social and psychological impact vitiligo may have on its victims. Vitiligo is painless and non-pruritic and, unlike psoriasis, it is not associated with shedding of skin scales. But the disfigurement of vitiligo, accentuated among persons with brown or black skin, can be devastating.

The recent media publicity about Michael Jackson's battle with vitiligo has helped raise public awareness of the disease. While vitiligo is worldwide and affects all races equally, it is a particularly troubling social problem for persons whose normal skin color is brown or black. The contrast between brown skin and white vitiligo spots can create a grotesque "harlequin" appearance. The same kind of disfigurement can become a problem for vitiligo victims with normally fair skin who tan deeply during the summer months or, among those who live in sunny climates, throughout the year.

In India, vitiligo, or "leukoderma" as it is called there, is regarded as "white leprosy." The late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru ranked vitiligo as one of three major medical problems in India, alongside malaria and leprosy. A woman in India cannot marry if she has even one spot of vitiligo, and if a woman develops vitiligo after marriage it is considered grounds for divorce.

It is no wonder vitiligo patients can turn aggressive, feel a sense of shame, or become withdrawn and resentful. For many, vitiligo is not just a cosmetic problem-it is a major social dysfunction that seriously curtails their ability to lead a normal work, social or married life. Reversal of the white spots and restoration of normal skin color is therefore the primary hope for all these disfigured vitiligo patients.

The Next Time You Think He's A Recluse, Or He's Weird, Or He's Shy, Or Whatever, Just Think For A Second, Maybe Ther'es A Reason.  Would You Go Out In Public If People Called You A Freak, Just Because You Had A Disorder You Couldn't Control?  If You were A Black Man, And Your Skin Turned Half White, And You Couldn't Treat It; How Would You Decide To Permanently Bleach It?  Then, Woulnd't It Be Some SHIT, If People Said You Did It ON Purpose, And Said You Didn't Want To Be Black Anymore?  Think About That!

More Quotes:

"I'm a black American, I am proud to be a black American, I am proud of my race. I am proud of who I am. I have a lot of pride and dignity." - Michael To Oprah, 1993

-------- Excerpts Of The Interview -----------------

Oprah : Okay, then let's go to the thing that is most discussed about you, that is the color of your skin is most obviously different than when you were younger, and so I think it has caused a great deal of speculation and controversy as to what you have done or are doing, are you bleaching your skin and is your skin lighter because you don't like being black?

Michael : Number one, as I know of, there is no such thing as skin bleaching, I have never seen it, I don't know what it is.

Oprah : Well they used to have those products, I remember growing up always hearing always use bleach and glow, but you have to have about 300,000 gallons.

Michael : Okay, but number one, this is the situation. I have a skin disorder that destroys the pigmentation of the skin, it's something that I cannot help. Okay. But when people make up stories that I don't want to be who I am it hurts me.

Oprah : So it is...

Michael : It's a problem for me that I can't control, but what about all the millions of people who sits out in the sun, to become darker, to become other than what they are, no one says nothing about that.

Oprah : So when did this start, when did your ... when did the color of your skin start to change?

Michael : Oh boy, I don't ... sometime after Thriller, around Off the Wall, Thriller, around sometime then.

Oprah : But what did you think?

Michael : It's in my family, my father said it's on his side. I can't control it, I don't understand, I mean, it makes me very sad. I don't want to go into my medical history because that is private, but that's the situation here.

Oprah : So okay, I just want to get this straight, you are not taking anything to change the color of your skin ...

Michael : Oh, God no, we tried to control it and using make-up evens it out because it makes blotches on my skin, I have to even out my skin. But you know what's funny, why is that so important? That's not important to me. I'm a great fan of art, I love Michelangelo, if I had the chance to talk to him or read about him I would want to know what inspired him to become who he is, the anatomy of his craftsmanship, not about who he went out with last night ... what' wrong with ... I mean that's what is important to me.

Oprah : How much plastic surgery have you had?

Michael : Very, very little. I mean you can count on my two fingers, I mean let's say this, if you want to know about those things, all the nosey people in the world, read my book Moonwalk, it's in my book. You know, let's put it this way, if all the people in Hollywood who have had plastic surgery, if they went on vacation, there wouldn't be a person left in town.

Oprah : Mmm, I think you might be right.

Michael : I think I am right. It would be empty.

Oprah : Did you start having plastic surgery because of those teen years because of not liking the way you looked?

Michael : No, not really. It was only two things. Really, get my book, it's no big deal.

Oprah : You don't want to tell me what it is? You had your nose done, obviously.

Michael : Yeah, but so did a lot of people that I know.

Oprah : And so, when you hear all these things about you, and there have been more...

Michael : I've never had my cheekbones done, never had my eyes done, never had my lips done and all this stuff. They go too far, but this is stuff that happens every day with other people.

Oprah : Are you pleased now with the way you look?

Michael : I'm never pleased with anything, I'm a perfectionist, it's part of who I am.

Oprah : And so when you look in the mirror now and so the image that looks back at you are there days when you say I kinda like this or I like the way my hair ...

Michael : No. I'm never pleased with myself. No, I try not to look in the mirror.

------------------ Excerpts From An interview With Diane Sawyer in '95----------

Diane Sawyer: But...but, do you wish you were...the color you were, again?

Michael: Do I wish I was the cololor?

Diane Sawyer: Black color.

Michael: You have to ask nature that. I loved...I love black, I love black.

Diane Sawyer: But do you wish you were that way?

Michael: I envy her [pointing to Lisa Marie], 'cause she can tan and I can't.

Furthermore, Mike has had lip surgery and way more than 2 operations by now, that i am sure of!
Trauma, you represent Mike like no other, and he is definitely an amazing artist and entertainer, but you gotta admit he has done some fukked up things and their is not an excuse for everything.   But ya, some people don't have a clue what Mike has been through, he has been shit on....but yo, he has also shit on himself.

Yeah, I think he has taken bleaching things to even his skin out.

As for the lips, I dunno.  I'm just telling you what he's said, at the time.  That was in 93 or 95 though, so maybe he's had more done since then.  I just copied and pasted some relevant discussions :)

yeah okay at the end of the day, i admit that even though he fucked himslef up 2 alot, it aint all his fault, but my view is simple.........white boys at the time couldnt take it that he was better than any artist they had so they shit on him and always will cuz even when his white, he still proud of his black background and his always gonna be better than any white singer out there, so until he dies, his always gonna be shitted on, just my opinion

peace

Yeah,I Agree There's A Lot Of Racism Goin' On And Some Discrimination In This.

White People (Some) Secretly (LOL) Just Don't Wanna Admit That He's Talented.  I'm A Big Paul McCartney Fan, And They Both Have New Cd's Out... Paul's Is Alright, Mike's Is Twice As Good.  However, They Pointed Out, And Focused On All The Bad Tracks On Mike's, Then Emphasized All Paul's Good Tracks On HIs Review.  They Called Mike's Song's Embarrasing, And Paul's Songs (Which Have Always Been Silly Love Songs :) ) Light And Breezy.  What?  They Also Reject Him Because They See Him As A Black Guy Trying To Be White (Skin).

Black People (Some) Feel He Betrayed Them, And Are Pissed that He "Doesn't Want To Be Black Anymore", Even Though That's Not The Case.

I Find It Funny, That The World Preaches That Color Doesn't Matter.  The Kids Are All Taught, Oh, Color Doesn't Matter.   But As Soon As Somebody's Color Changes, People TRIP HARD....
