Jay-Z-King of NYWhat gives theSource the authority
« on: November 12, 2001, 09:59:54 AM »
Yo... I'm tired of hearing the Source call Jay-Z the King of NY.  I swear either Def Jam or Rockefella has got to be paying the Source money under the table.  In the new Nas interview they call Jay-Z the King of New York.  I see it all the time in that magazine.  Jay-Z calls himself the King of New York.  You never saw Snoop calling himself the King of the West Coast.

And they put Benzino on the cover... What a joke.  Their abusing their authority.  He's THE wackest rapper ever to get a rap cover.  And it's because the editor is his manager I believe.

I don't know if my post was deleted, or I didn't post it so I'm going to say this again.

Infinite-It seems you have been stuck under a rock duke, it seems as if you only see eminem..........

If Jay isn't the king of New York who is?  How is the source abusing their athority by calling Jay-Z the king of NY? It's their opinion, a valid one infact, and if you don't like it then fine. Although he probably isn't the best but he has been the most consistent from new york from the past 5 years. If you can't see that Jay-Z is on top of hip hop then you obviously don't listen to hip hop and have been on em's nuts too long.

So here we go.

Nas (one of my favorites) hasn't been that good after IWW.

The Wu (one of my favorites) are falling and the main one holding it down is ghostface.

BIG (one of my favorites) died (former king of ny).

I like underground artist but how can an underground artist be the king of Ny?

DMX? Ja RULE?- You gotta be kidding me...............these two dudes....forget it, you get the point.

So there you go, please tell me who is currently the king of ny if jay isn't........ and believe me I'm far from a jay dickrider I just know how to face the truth.

(I don't llike to call people this because it's kinda played out)You're obviously a hater, You post a post talking about how jay shouldn't be called king of ny and you post no information stating why he shouldn't be king of ny........All you say is you never see snoop calling himself the king of the west coast when he has called himself that. You make it seem as if it's wrong to say your the best from your state, or coast.

Why would Rocafella pay the source to call jay-z the king of new york?  Get Real dun, most people have been calling jay that for a while. I bet if the source said em was the king of detroit or king of hip hop you would have no problem with it and you'd be jumping around your room like a weirdo that you are.

Oh yeah I agree Jay didn't deserve 5 mics. Personally I would have given him 4.5 though.

Oh yeah Benzino shouldn't have gotten on the cover (the owner of the source manages the made men, thats why they always have all those ads and they got 4.5 mics in the source)  If you don't like the fact that benzino was on the source buy a cover with nas, jada or suge on it. They don't make you buy a benzino cover.

Picture yourself crushin Xzibit with your tough talk,
thats like Christopher Reeve doin' the crip walk.- Xzibit

Suicidal, High I'm smoking so much la,
I saw a dead bird flying through a broken sky-
Nas

they already had a corruption case naww ???.. fo made men or some

didn't the change of director ??? if that nigga is a bitch , can he do that

shit a lot of thing like that made the classic mark.... sincerly, i would have gave a 4.5 like the source gave jay-z fo all his album they say that jay-z his the third motherfucka to get a classic mark after ice cube n nas... doggystyle had something like 3.5 and have the rate change to 5 thats why they didn't state snoop ...they did the same with chronic 2001... they just bitchin over snoop n dre to keep their jay-hova on top..... motherfuckin snitches.... fuck the source yeah but i still read the interview ... the pretty interessant..

(I'm only going to reply to the content in your post, I deleted all of the empty rhetoric, it served no purpose in trying to get your point across.  Now we can have a more civilized debate.)

First of all your right, if I'm going to say Jay-Z isn't the King of New York, then I need to determine who is the King of New York, or atleast why Jay-Z isn't the King of New York.  I think that there is no clear 'King of New York' right now.  Just like there is no clear 'King of the West Coast' for the time being.  I think in 93-95 Snoop was the King of the West Coast and then 2pac was the 'King of the West Coast' in 96.  Again this is my opinion.  And I also believe that Biggie was the King of New York in his prime.  And that their has been no authentic heir to the throne since his passing.
Now, Jay-Z is the best marketed rapper from the East Coast.  And he is marketed as the King of the East Coast.  And it helps him sell records.  And it is a fact, that a dj was on MTV and said that Def Jam offered his radio station money to make a Jay-Z joint rotational.  So they have been known to do it.  And how else would Beenie Siegal get 4-1/2 mics, (on his first album) and Jay-Z get 5, if they weren't 'connected.'
The Gza, Rza, Method Man, Ghostface, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, are all more talented, more intelligent, and better suited to represent New York, and it's hip-hop culture.

And I love the Source, and I've renewed my subscription for another five years, as a paid subscriber I believe I have the right to disagree with some of the things I read in their magazine.  Peace.
