MJ with upsetting first week sales...
« on: November 07, 2001, 12:59:54 PM »
although it will peak at number 1 this week on the charts, michael jacksons 'invincible' only sold a disappointing 366,300 copies which is way under the 1 million first week sales goal...this is a lower number than first week sales from dmx, jay-z, ja rule, d12, and just about any other album that has peaked at number one in their premier week this year...what do yall think?

Yeah, I Think He Should retire.  I Mean, He ONLY Debuted @ The Top of The Album Charts; In 20 Some Countries.  That's "Upsetting".... Especially With Little Promotion (The Promotion Is Going To Be Aired For Christmas).

BTW, History Sold 3.5 Million Copies In The U.S., And Sold 391,000 The First Week, About The Same As Invincible.  I Just don't See That As Upsetting, Sorry; It's Not As Much As His Other Albums, But Better Than His Last (Blood On THe Dance Floor Only Went To #2 Or So In THe U.S., And History Never Made It To #1).

Peace

It's about QUALITY not quanity

this album could sell 30 copies and it'd still be dope , sales should effect the quality of a cd  plus most of the people who are selling records are selling becuase of sex appeal...which michael doesn't really have

True That

"Dangerous" Was Huge, He Was On Top , Then.

I Thought, Honestly, That He'd Sell Near A Million In THe U.S. First Week Sales, But Oh No, LOL.

Anyways; I Think, That The Music Industry Is About To Turn Upside Down.  MP3'z have Effected It So Hugely, That Eventually, Nobody Will Be Able To Sell Because Kazaa And Morpheus , Etc. Will Be So Readily Available.  And It'll ALWAYS Be Like That.

I Blame A Little Bit Of It On Mp3's, But Just THINK What That's Been Doing To Our Hiphop Albums.  Mike Wouldn't Get Bootlegged As Much As Hiphop, Surely.  What Would Snoop Have Sold Without Bootleggers?  he Beat Mike WITH Bootleggers, Imagine How Big He'd Be Without Them.

There's Gonna Be Some Big Changes, I Think, For Sure.

BTW, I of Course Also Blame Some of his Low Sales on His General Perception In Teh Media As Being A Freak, LOL.  He Has Been Doing A Lot Of Public Image Stuff Lately Though, Maybe It'll Help.  But Yall Have To Realize; He's Screwed Up (Physically) He's Made Steps With Surgery, Etc. And His Vitiligo Condition That Are Non-Reversable; People Are Just Gonna Have To Accept Him For How He Is.

Yesterday There Was An Auto Signing In The Virgin Megastore With Online Coverage; I Swear, And Maybe Some Of Yall Saw It, There Were Still Girls There (And Young, Like 18) Fainting And Crap; Like Hundreds And Hundreds Of Them Walking Up To Him Crying And Shaking And Stuff, Screaming "We Love You Michael" , So i Think He's Still Got A Fan Base, And Apparently A Lot Of Them Are New (They're Young).

MJ has never had unbelievable 1st week sales...History sold 391,000 copies it's 1st week and Dangerous 327,000...So this is somewhere in his range...He sells his albums on the strength of his singles which he usually releases alot of them...

It Tells Us Not To Judge Whether Music Is Good Or Not On The Basis  Of Chart Postioning.

That's not necessarily fair though because record sales in general have increased a lot since that album was released.
