Although a few people hesitated in 04 and 05, it is beyond official that Darko is a bust...and a major bust in one of the deepest drafts in the last 25 years. Many people still talk about how bad of a draft pick it was...and many of us laugh hard at the people who were saying "Lebron might not even go #1, it's some guy named Darko Milicic who they say is better than him".

Now my question is...if you were a Pistons fan, would you really be mad about this draft pick, since your team still won the championship that year???

Personally...I think this pick was one of the greatest blessings in disguise that most people won't think hard enough to realize. For one...if they had drafted D. Wade, it's very doubtful that Billups would have ended up playing past his potential that year, and Wade wouldn't have shined nearly as much as he did being the primary guard in Miami. If they had selected Carmelo, Bosh, or anybody else up there, there is a great chance that they wouldn't have made the trade for Rasheed to come, and they would have been trying to build a solid team versus trying to win the championship that year. So in my opinion, they would not have won the championship in 2004, and depending on who they drafted, it's not a sure thing that they would have won any rings at all.

that was pretty stupid IMO no matter how you look at it....The Pistons are a crazy team with Bosh, Melo or D Wade.  Bosh>>Rasheed, Melo>>Prince>>>Wade>>>Rip Hamilton

No doubt Darko was / is a bust.  And it's also pretty ridiculous to say that somehow the Pistons were better of without Melo.  The thing is, they won the championship right after that.  One player doesn't guarantee a championship - a team does.  The Pistons were the opitime of team basketball, they had a great chemistry.  They didn't need that pick to do that.  But say they did draft Melo, he'd likely have gotten some good minutes and would have likely changed the whole dynamic of that team.  Maybe they would have been better, maybe not.  And they still had the best record just last year, they just couldn't get it done in the playoffs.

But lets be real, with 20/20 hindsight, of course they'd rather have Melo.

It's not that I think they were better off without Melo or anybody....but I just don't think they would have won the championship that year. For one, we know he has a helluva ego, and that may have caused some chemistry issues there. Even though all of those rookies were skilled that year, I don't think that would have guaranteed them winning any ring. They proved it to us that talent alone doesn't win championships. And I don't think they would have acquired Rasheed at that time if they had one of those other stars.

Yeah don't get me twisted, my personal opinion is that Melo would have fucked up the chemistry on that team.  Dude does have an ego, and the Pistons were a team straight up and down.  The def helped reinforce that a great TEAM is what wins championships.  But even with that, it's still tough to say that knowing what they know now they'd rather have drafted Darko over Melo.

LOL! I hate Kwame, but they didnt draft him off potential, well they did, but he had a GREAT College Career he gave up like 1 sack in 4 years...So he was a deserving draft pick, he just sucks..A BUST to me is someone that was supposed to be GREAT GREAT GREAT..Like Leaf, Or Rick Mirer, Brian Bosworth, Curtis Enis, Ki-Jana Carter, etc...

Yes, I would be mad. If I'm Detroit, I'm saying why not Bosh? Who's happy with just 1 championship, it's all about creating the greatest DYNASTIES.

becuz Bosh was the behind the Big 3 that year..Darko, Melo, and Bron bron

Bosh would have been a great fit though IMO, but if they drafted Bosh they might never have traded for Rasheed...so who knows..

Who cares, it still works out much better in the long run...Imagine a Chris Bosh+Ben Wallace front court...They coulda' been kings of the East for years and years.

Mosav is basically saying the same thing I see....they definitely wouldn't have traded for Sheed, and they wouldn't have had that same dynamic...and Bosh n Ben sounds great, but there are about 10-15 duos and trios that we have seen that sound amazing, but haven't turned out for the good. Imagine if Dirk and Steve Nash never played on the Mavs together....the thought of those two together just sounds like an automatic championship. Especially T-Mac and Yao....before it happened, everybody KNEW, and I mean KNEW, that it was the next Kobe and Shaq tandem.

So yeah...I just think the stars were alligned for the Pistons that year, and they may have possibly had a dynasty in the future, but it's no guarantee at all that they would have won one ring, let alone have 3-4.
