Do U think Puff is one of the best producers ever?
« on: November 04, 2001, 12:28:18 PM »
How come noone put Puffy on their list in the producers thread?  I didn't either, but i thought about it and he should be on there.  Here's why......
Puff has had a huge hand in a couple classic albums (Ready to Die, Life After Death), as well as dope albums like No Way Out and Harlem World jsut to name a couple.  Plus, he produced so many R&B joints back in the day, it is incredible what the man has done.  And if you actually check it out before hating, his new album is actually really good.
Puffy changed hiphop for a couple years there with his jiggy shit.....every rapper from Snoop to jay Z say Puff was running shit and they knew there type of shit wouldn't work and they were confused as to how to find success.
Even though i am glad the jiggy era is kinda over, i got love for Puff because he brings fun to the game, a little of that happy rap.  Hate about his rapping, jacking old songs, screwing Shyne, etc, etc, he is at least top 10, yet he doesn't even have an honourable mention in the best producers ever thread.

Some Dope Songs/Huge hits he produced/coproduced;

Victory
Been Around the World
I'll be Missing You
All bout the Benjamins
Can't nobody Hold Me Down
Feels SO Good by Mase
Juicy
One More Chance
Big poppa
Hypnotize
Mo Money Mo Problems

Feel free to hate on me...i would like to know your guys opinions.

Juicy.. Everday Struggle *i think that was him*... but anyways word.. a lot of people refuse to give him any respect but he definitely deserves more than cats like swiss cheeze or the neptunes..

i would put him on that lit but he needs to make more beats like that again.. lately some of his beats i'm just into.. and i also got really annoyed by "badboy 4 life"
if he comes back to like hypnotize, one more chance, big poppa
then he would be much more dope IMO

Puffy is probably one of the greatest producers of all time...but since he uses sampling in a wrong way and that he's a very wack rapper he's overshadowed.  I think he should make my top 10.  Teecee - I'll find a place for him cause the early shit he did with BIG was classic.

Puff doesn't even produce most of the Bad Boy hits.

"Juicy" was produced by the Trackmasters
"One More Chance" was produced by the Trackmasters and co-produced by Puff
"Flava In Ya Ear" was produced by Easy Moe Bee
"Hypnotize" was produced by D-Dot
"Big Poppa" was done by him but co-produced by the Trackmasters
"Bad Boy For Life" was produced by the Megahertz
"DIDDY" by the Neptunes
"No One Else" was produced by the Trackmasters

Stevie J has co-produced just as much for Bad Boy than Puff. Plus most of the songs Puff is credited for producing Stevie J's name is right next to Puff's.

The Trackmasters are the BEST at sampling. They have produced as much or more hits than Puffy.

Yea I'm sure he produced some on his own but a lot were produced by other people or he just co-produced.

Look inside the jacket of Life After Death. He only produces about 3 songs by himself and they are the wackest ones.

I cant believe no one has mentioned Notorious Thugs yet, which was like his best beat ever. Anyway, I dont think Puff is a top 10 producer. A top 10 producer is someone like Primo, Dre, RZA, etc etc.......

To westcoast veteran:

Juicy was produced by Puffy and the Trackmasters, not just Trackmasters....look it up.

Also, the Trackmasters had no part whatsoever in Big Poppa, it was Puff and Chucky Thompson.  Furthermore, Puff coproduced Hypnotize along with DDot and Amen Ra.
I admit the Trackmasters were hot for a minute (esp. It was Written) but where the hell are they now, prod. wack shit like ROyce new single.
Of course a lot of Puffy's shit is coproduced, but so is Dre's.  Puff is like Dre in a way (don't worry, Dre is WAY better) becasue he knows how to make the artists sound dope and when to add shit.  Even Dre said a couple years ago that Puffy was a genius in knowing how to use a sample and that Puff was the one who made him step up his game after he heard Benjamins.
Hate Puff if you want, but his track record speaks for itself........i am quite surprised that most of ya'll of giving props to Puff, much love to y'all

Yeah, but we know Dre could put up a tight beat solo...with out Mel-Man.  Puffy doesn't have that versatility like D-R-E.
