leftovers
« on: October 25, 2001, 09:25:23 AM »
ever since i started coming here over a year ago people have constantly asked me about dre's leftovers. I've addressed this topic many times and i will address it one final time. DO NOT EXPECT TO EVER HEAR MOST OF THE LEFTOVERS. During his career dre has produced well over 500 tracks that could be deemed "leftovers". A "leftover" is a track that has been produced by dre and has recorded vocals by many many different mc's. These songs have never really been mixed and engineered to a polished version that is up to dre's own demands and expectations, because they were not picked to be on a album. only a very small percentage of these songs get leaked, released or remade. Besideds the full song leftovers, dre (and co-producers and dozens of musicians) has created thousands of instrumentals as well.
along the way i've given you examples of leftover tracks that got reused or remade(i.e. motherfucka i'm dre=hello). but at least 95% of all the leftovers will never be heard by people outside of dre and the people he trusts (whom he allows access to all his music). why? because of three main reasons. 1) is that they didn't make the final cut 2) some simply weren't that good ( even the legendary producers are not great all the time, they just have a knack for choosing the right ones) and 3) dre wants to keep them for himself and his own personal reflections, memories and use.
A lot of you are fiending for these "leftovers" to be released. god knows i would be too if i was in your shoes. but the fact is they are not ever going to be released. so to you they really don't exist. therefore there is no reason to get excited hoping that you are going to hear these "leftovers". cause you wont and you never will. as musicians, music is a part of our heart and soul. we are the lucky few who get to create the soundtrack to our lives. most people only get to choose the songs they use for their personal soundtrack. we love our fans for their support and love for our music. but we make the music we want to make, not what someone else wants us to make. we love the financial and personal goals and dreams that we can reach and accomplish through music. but the fact is we make music because we love it. if it wasn't our career we'd do it for free(although we'd actually have to work). someone like dre lives for music. he eats, sleeps and breathes music and the opportunity to create and entertain people with his legendary talent. but a lot of the music dre makes is for himself, not the fans. i and every other musician who spends his/her life in music feel the exact same way dre does. and if you were in dre's shoes you would feel the same way he does. some music is just not meant to be heard by the public.
so i hope you respect dre's reasons not to release a lot of his music. i know you want to hear everything he does but it just dont work that way. so keep enjoying the music you do hear and stop worrying about the music you don't hear. peace.

You know mellow do you have any idea how much "Leftovers" have leaked?? It's amazing I'm one of the people guilty of collecting "RARE" Dre Cuts..Most People Will Retire From Collecting "Leftovers" If The Grand Daddy Of All Unreleased Tracks Was Released "Next Episode (Original) In Cdq" LOL Thats A Rare Mp3 Collectors Dream To Have That Track In Perfect CDQ... All I Can Say Is This.. People Ask About Those Tracks Not Because They Havent Heard Them It's Because They Already Leaked And Are In Many Cases Better Then The Tracks That Make The Actual Album.. Like If Just Got A Dre Track Called "Sunshine" I Have No Idea Where It Came From Wether Its New Or Old All I Know About It Is That It's Dope As Fuck... I Just Wanted To Let You Know My Take On This Leftovers Business, You Present Your Self As An Aftermath Authority So You Can't Blame People For Asking You Whats Up With Those Tracks..

one thing i just realised. dre doesnt seem to be one for releasing non-album tracks as b-sides. whereas lots of other artists do.

Again, Mellow assumes NONE of us know the "musician's life" thing...

Anyways, thanx for the hook-up, but it's not even worth posting-the people who didn't listen the first time won't listen now.

*Shivers* - Stop it man, LoL.

Wasn't The Narrarator the one who claimed he could get a hold of them?  I still have the list printed out cause I wanted em, LoL.
Anyway, I made a post some months back and we came up with the titles we thought we leftovers and could of actually been real songs.  I think 30 songs were named.

ok.. as far as i know the story goes like this

maxi told narrator he had them and they negotiated a trade

narrator actually got a fan of chronic overload to send goodies trade to maxi for them.

nuffin ever turned up at narrators end.

but he also never lost out..

a few replies to your comments on this thread. first up, my old homie b-please, i apologize if you thought i was posting this thread in anger to people's constant questions about leftovers. although i am getting a bit tired of it i'm not mad at them asking. i just wanted to put out my comments on the topic one final time and hopefully everyone will read, catch the knowledge and quit asking about it. yes there will always be some tracks that leak out. but if you take a look at the whole picture a miniscule percentage will ever be leaked. you can't watch over everything all the time. you can protect the master recordings on a high level, but you can't stop them all from not getting out. you will never hear the original next episode in cd quality. the person who got that recorded it with a generic recorder while it was being played in a studio. on top of that you'd have suge knight on your ass if you did and he found out.  i don't blame you or anyone trying to find these rare dre tracks. like i said if i was in your shoes i'd want them too. so keep searching and you may find a few more. but dre will try his best to stop them from coming out.
owen -  i apologize for any incinuation that no one on this board is a musician, producer, artist. i don't mean to be disrespectful. but like i correct people who assume things about dre or things that go on in the aftermath camp, i deserve to have it pointed out if i assume something, too. dan and suga foot sorry for the bad news. and if anyone wants to come steal dre's masters from the death row days up to now, bring it and bring a gang of homies with ya ;)
Lil Jay - man dogg, how did you find all those names? i can't verify them all since you have such a long list but about 2/3 of those were actual tracks, including a couple that got redid or retitled.
and to anyone who thinks i post here using various names i promise you i DO NOT and never will. and i can almost guarantee that no one had all those unreleased tracks. if they did they would never have released them unless they wanted dre and 100 hard motherfuckers on their back.
lyrical g i will give you a final update and outlook on those 4 artists, plus dre and the future starting tonight. so hold on.
