MAINSTREAM vs UNDERGROUND
«
on:

of course its good 4 the pokets 2 go commercial
(if ure successful anyway, theres a long sea
of rappers nowadays
)
but i get sik of seein only about 15% of folks that
deserve xposure among those making progress
How many times until people quit makin the same album
with the same concepts and appearances...
producers....a big part of it is i hate the media
All the media is on the EAST that deals with print...
videos....major labels as well.....they constantly play the same
12-14 cuts.....maybe even acts...most"successful" acts
are from the EAST coast.....but its not even bout that theyre all from the EAST......cuz the underground over there is
neglected as well....the main factor is that enuff real talent
isnt brought the masses...its all the same..status play..
which n turn makes me hate the BIG 5.....
5 corporations own 99% of every label & those are strong
influences on what gets reviewed...xposed....sell millions
even though u might be independant....ure distributor
is either ownned or has financial investment in the ure wayh 2 the records store...or outpowers ure
connects...let me do the programming 4 rap videos on MTV
or BET 4 a cupple months.....every1 would be happy.....
got summore thoughts 2 drop...will do that later

but imma proceed anyway....
basically most people buy whats "cool" & "in"
& have no want 2 explore new music
or juss great music n general that is not xposed...
If its not bein brainwashed a million times a day
on the radio or TV...even though a majority of the
artists exposed on TV are weak as fukin water
2 summa the pioneers that lay the foundation
4 creativity..its a crok of shit
not 2 say every1 should be sellin millions of albums...
but they dont even give the majority of the masses 2 be accustomed 2 so much of the shit thats out there
at least bac n the late 80s & early 90s they had a wide
spectrum of artists from RAKIM 2 SALT N PEPA 2
BIZ MARKIE 2 SCHOOLY D that had thier xposure.....
Straight up..if ure an independent ure on ure own
Its better on the $ side cuz u see almost 8-10 times the profit
than fukin with a major...but best believe u go thru so much
shit....have record stores tell u NAW ITS NOT COO 2 PROMOTE HERE
or look @ u like WHY THE FUK WOULD WE SELL URE PRODUCT?
not 2 mention u have no ground 2 stand on compared 2 the
advertising & bombardment of major labels.....
In a way its good 4 us underground heads...
u dont have 2 hear sum teeny bopper driving by bumpin
sum shit tryna act hard....or all up on that persons dik....
that never would have even liked em as artists if they
wasnt played on tv/radio.....
that brings 2 sumthin else:
this applies 2 u if ure an underground head.....
if 1 of those artists that u love suddenly blew up
after strugglin in the rap game puttin out quality albums
how would ure opinion change? would u not like them as much
as u did b4 everybody & thier mama started likin it?
I had this happen 2 me with EMINEM......
i was listening 2 him 2 or 3 years b4 he signed with DRE
& HI! MY NAME IS premiered......
now when he blew up i was happy..it didnt change with me....
besides the rolling of my eyes who like i said wouldnt even like
him if MTV hadnt latched on his nuts......
I might add more later.....
but id like 2 end this post by sayin:
FUK MAJOR LABELS! IM UNDERGROUND 4EVER..............

Difficult To Really Decide, Maisntream Is People Like 2Pac (RIP), Snoop Dogg, Xzibit (New Shit), Kurupt, People Like That, Who All Are Tight, But Then You Got People Like Brotha Lynch Hung, C-Bo, X-Raided, And People Like That, Who Are Also Dope.

It's easier to get caught up wit the mainstream material as it's drummed into your brain 24/7. I like a mixture of underground & mainstream artists/groups but I couldn't pick 1 genre as there's too much dope choice on both sides.

Mainstream: Entertainment
Underground: Art/Music
thats how I would differ them... but I like both... Basically mainstream its Snoop, Xzibit, Nas, Dre, Kurupt... ya know
Underground I would go with Dilated People, J5 (getting major now), Ill Nemesis (local rapper), The Crest, Devin... I wouldnt call him mainstream, its all there... you just gotta find what you like, but there is no way where I just like one and not another... too much love out there.

mainstream and underground music are equal no matter how you flip it
theres ALOT of GREAT mainstream aritsts and theres ALOT of GREAT underground artists
theres also ALOT of HORRIBLE mainstream artists and theres ALOT of HORRIBLE underground acts
it's like logic siad there 2 different type of main stream
Dr. Dre/Outkast Mainstream: sales millions of records becuase it's GREEEEEEEEEEEEAT music
then
NELLY/Ja Rule Maintream: sales becuase of an image and Novelty type of music
then you got your're under ground
Brotha Lynch/Kool Keith Underground: great Underground music that's underground becuase only a select amount of people can dig it , but never the less GREAT music
then you got:
Mc Gangster/MC New Jersey underground: underground becuase they suck more than nelly and NO ONE likes them and have NO TALENT at all and the only people that buys their album are their mom and dads and close friends kinda underground and the whole content of their albums are overplayed themes cliched beats and played out styles

I Work at a University Radio station and we are not allowed to be playing main stream music. Even though I was a DJ in a club before where thats all I played because that is what packed the dance floor and that is the whole concept....... I am learning ::)a lot more music (underground) and this might change my out look on the Artists I Currently listen too now.
I LOve Hip Hop and I lovem to listen to different Artists and if you would like to also.
I suggest stop listening to the Main radio Stations in you hood and MTV Or Much Music bcause it is all about the promotion and there is some Hella tight artists out there that dont get no promo but are as good as anyone is see on TV........

that's true but don't pull an ingnorant thing like alienate a whole kind of music just to listen to another
like i said theres just as much bullshit in the underground as their is in the mainstream and just as much good shit

Here is the biggest Difference...
Mainstream: One Job... Making Music
Underground: Two Jobs... Making Music and Working at Denny's.

^^^ that's not true at all....
Some underground people are gettin paid! i'm talkin phat wallets. especially the ones that are independent. Of course the Mainstream people like Jay Z and Snoop are gettin paid way more... but still... underground doesn't neccessarely mean you're constantly struggling for a meal.
Mainstream music is just accepted more by MTV, BET and the Radio. I think alot of Underground cuts have Mainstream potential... but it all depends on whether MTV, BET or the Radio are feeling it.
So basically, Mainstream, is the music MTV, BET, and the Radio feed you... the shit they play 24/7 cuz they feel it's gonna make THEM rich. And sometimes the shit they pick, is pretty tight... alot of mainstream songs are dope.... but there's also alot of underground songs that are tight too... but dont get as much play because the big guys at MTV "dont think it has that certain sound"
