Some underground people are gettin paid! i'm talkin phat wallets. especially the ones that are independent. Of course the Mainstream people like Jay Z and Snoop are gettin paid way more... but still... underground doesn't neccessarely mean you're constantly struggling for a meal.

Mainstream music is just accepted more by MTV, BET and the Radio. I think alot of Underground cuts have Mainstream potential... but it all depends on whether MTV, BET or the Radio are feeling it.

So basically, Mainstream, is the music MTV, BET, and the Radio feed you... the shit they play 24/7 cuz they feel it's gonna make THEM rich. And sometimes the shit they pick, is pretty tight... alot of mainstream songs are dope.... but there's also alot of underground songs that are tight too... but dont get as much play because the big guys at MTV "dont think it has that certain sound"

And also listen criminal_909 up there, Theres hella Independent underground rappers dat make stacks of money.......most of em choose 2 be dat way cause its less work and less stress........Some examples of dat are: E40, South park mexican, Brotha Lynch, JT tha bigga figga ETC.......

I dont have MTV2 yet.... I wanna get it though... sounds cool, and isn't October supposed to be like Hip Hop month?

But I do watch MTV.... they show a grip of videos at night... It's not even a show or anything... it's just "VIDEOS", they show nothin BUT videos for like 6 hours straight.... and the only Rap they'll show is Jay Z, Nelly, Snoop, Dre, DMX.... you know, all the other mainstream people... and also Direct Effect... if they do show Rap videos on there.. they'll be the same'ol played out videos.

I probably will end up gettin MTV2 though... what kind of underground shit do they play on there?

yeah I agree with that Gate Won, Id rather give my money 2 an underground rapper instead of a puffy or nelly. they work hard &  try to promote it as good as possible 2 sell well, but rappers like  Puff dont do shit, they go in the studio and make albums within 2 weeks. they dont give 2 shits cause  they know they will succeed & b on MTV, even if its a shitty record like the saga continues

mainstream and underground music are equal no matter how you flip it


theres ALOT of GREAT mainstream aritsts and theres ALOT of GREAT underground artists

theres also ALOT of HORRIBLE mainstream artists and theres ALOT of HORRIBLE underground acts


it's like logic siad there 2 different type of main stream

Dr. Dre/Outkast Mainstream: sales millions of records becuase it's GREEEEEEEEEEEEAT music

then

NELLY/Ja Rule Maintream: sales becuase of an image and Novelty type of music

then you got your're under ground


Brotha Lynch/Kool Keith Underground: great Underground music that's underground becuase only a select amount of people can dig it , but never the less GREAT music

then you got:

Mc Gangster/MC New Jersey underground: underground becuase they suck more than nelly and NO ONE likes them and have NO TALENT at all and the only people that buys their album are their mom and dads and close friends kinda underground and the whole content of their albums are overplayed themes cliched beats and played out styles

the problem with the mainstream is that most of the music is diluted, only a few artists are holding it down. (like jake said, dre and outkast) In the underground, there may be alot of artists with incredibly dull music that claim there underground because there records aren't selling for shit, but there are a shit load of artists that are puting out dope and inventive music. (everyone on def jux, project blowed, del etc.
so right now the underground is puting out better music than the mainstream artists.
