The Case of The Forgotten Emcee....Warren G
« on: April 26, 2007, 10:41:11 AM »
Seeing him on a reality show, I can't help but feel sorry him.  Where would you guys pinpoint the early declines of his career? I say back in 96' with the downfall of DR Records; he had a golden opportunity to come with a new sound and change the game, much like dre did with "2001". But instead he released an album that was not as successful and clearly inferior to his debut classic. Is it too late for Warren G to be an impact player for the westcoast? Or is he completely washed up?

Depends on your definition of "washed up". His music isn't as good as it use to be, but he can still make some dope music from time to time. But at the same time no one buys his albums anymore. IMHO he is.

He already was an impact player on the West Coast.

I mean, his name stayed around, and he got some play nationwide with "Game don't wait remix" and a liiil bit with Lookin at you...but everybody can't be at Dre's type of level.

It's funny though...at our BBQ last weekend, I played This DJ, and a lotta people were like "oooohhh shit!!!!" like damm, I haven't heard that in ten years..and I remembered it bein on MTV Top 10 every day for a while in the summer of 94.

Warren G has always been a laid back guy. Pretty much just drops albums when he wants to. He has had success, production and rapping so like Ted said, depends on what you mean by washed up.

warren g is 1 of the dopest 2 ever do it. His popularity declined, and it was his own fault. i don't think he really cares all that much :-\

he seems like he's cool with making hit records, for his core fanbase to enjoy, and not really spending too much time in the limelight

just my 2 cents

This is not a knock on Warren at all, but it doesn't seem like he wanted to be on Meggga Star status.

i think he just missed the cutoff for legend. the general public only remember the legends(pac, dre, snoop)... the man who made regulate should never be forgotten. even now he's still straight.

warren still puts out some great music and should continue to do so, but whether it sells is another thing.

^ man that seriously DOES NOT matter because its his "career peak". A "washed up/fallen off" artists usually "falls" AFTER their peak. So whynot post sales of Return Of The Regulator and Mid Night Hour.
