Favorite Albums Of The Decade ['90 - '01]
« on: August 15, 2001, 12:07:37 AM »
List ONLY 1 Album For Each Year!

Pre-Decade:
1986 Run DMC - Raising Hell
1987 LL Cool J - Bigger And Deffer
1988 DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince - He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper
[Damn! This Was A Close Year. I Bought My First Gangsta Rap Album Which Was Eazy Duz It But I Couldn't Get Enough Of "Parents Just Don't Understand" So I Got To Give It Up To The Prince.]
1989 N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton

Decade:
1990 MC Hammer - Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em
[I Ain't Going To Front. I Bumped This Album Like A Motherfucker When It Dropped. I Was In Fourth Grade And You Know This Was The Shiznit Back Then. AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted Comes Really Close But Hammer Takes The Prize.]
1991 Ice T - Original Gangster
1992 Dr. Dre - The Chronic
1993 Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle
1994 Outkast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
1995 Bone Thugs N Harmony - E. 1999 Eternal
[This Album Is Followed EXTREMELY Close By Me Against The World. Both Definite CLASSICS But I Played Bone's Album Non-Stop For About 6 Months.]
1996 2Pac - All Eyez On Me
1997 Master P - Ghetto D
[Yeah You Heard Me! Master P's Album. I Don't Know Why But I Liked This Joint. This Was When P Was On Top Of The Rap Game. Maybe I Got Caught Up In All The Hype But I Can't Remember Any Other Album Which Was Released In '97 That I Bumped More Than This One. Life After Death Comes Really Close Though.]
1998 DMX - It's Dark And Hell Is Hot
1999 Dr. Dre - 2001
2000 Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
[I Don't Really Like Eminem Anymore Due To His Recent Antics But This Was The Only Stand-Out Album Of 2G. That Means I Got To Give Him His Props No Matter What. This Album Is Actually Tied With Stankonia But Since I Already Got An Outkast Album On My List I Decided To Let Eminem Have Some Shine.]
2001 Sticky Fingaz - Black Trash : The Autobiography Of Kirk Jones
[This Is The Best And Most Original Album That Has Been Released So Far This Year. We Still Got A Lot Of Albums To Hear But So Far This Album Is On The Top Of My List.]

I heard Rap around all my life... but I didnt really get into it till Tha Chronic came out... and they would play "Nothin But A G Thang" non stop... So I'll start from Then.

'92 - The Chronic
'93 - Doggystyle: I liked this even more than tha Chronic back then. Snoop dogg was tha shit! We would be all young rapping his songs with all the old people lookin at us like "what tha hell are these  kids saying?!"... all shocked
'94 - Regulate... A G Funk Era: "Regulate" was all you would hear back then.
'95 - Dogg Food
'96 - Bow Down - I remember when tha video came out, and we all saw WC do tha C-Walk for tha first time, classical shit... I probably didnt hear All Eyez On Me till '97 so West Side Connection was getting played 24/7
'97 - Based On A True Story: I bought this cd because of "Backyard Boogie"... and the whole album was just TIGHT... one of my personal favorites to this day..
'98 - Tha Shadiest One
'99 - Top Dogg: 2001 didn't come out till way at the end of the year... so I was playin Top Dogg alot more up till that point.
'00 - Last Of A Dying Breed: Not Scarface's best... but I couldn't really think of anything else.
'01 - Wild N Tha West (Chico & Coolwadda):I've been bumpin this since the day it came out. I dont know... it's just coo' to hear some new shit straight out of Southern Cali... I aint tryna say it's tha BEST shit that's come out this year... just tha one that I liked most.

I started REALLY listening around '93; It was around me before, but I started thinkin about it and all from that date onwards:

'90:I wasn't listening much for these three years, but I got my views...AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted:Classic shit, I enjoy listening to it a lot, this was why Cube was my hero for a time.

'91:Gotta say, Princey and Jeff-Homebase: Summertime, guys, Summertime!

'92:Ice Cube-Predator:Again, this was why Cube was my hero. Classic shit, It Was A Good Day especially.

'93:Wu Tang-The 36 Chambers:Just perfect. I loved it Every song. {Doggystyle, in hindsight, comes near for me, as does Lethal Injection.}

'94:Outkast-Southernplayalisticcadillacfunkymusik: The OTK blew up the scene with this. It was horribly slept on in many respects, and they didn't get the respect they deserved till Stankonia. {

'95:I agree with the man WCV, BTNH-E.1999 Eternal:Just a great album. Bone in their prime as a group. Meaningful raps, etc... {MATW steals second place

'96:Outkast-ATLiens:Perfect album. A bit out there, but Outkast at their best. Anybody that thinks this album's wack needs a lobotomy...

'97:Master P-Ghetto D:Just because.

'98:Outkast-Aquemini:To me, easily the album of the year. Every song was good; This goes beyond perfect, in my opinion.

'99:Mos Def-Black On Both Sides:Lovely. Goes beyond saying, however, that it's for the initiated.

'00:2Pac-The Rose That Grew From Concrete: Instead of having to choose from a mediocre year, I'll go for TRTGFC, to give Pac the respect he's due for the effect he's had on my life. These poems are classics.

Well, lets see.......

1990--Public Enemy, "Fear Of A Black Planet"

1991--Tribe Called Quest, "Low End Theory"

1992--Dre, "The Chronic"

1993--Tie: Snoop, "Doggystyle" and Wu Tang "36 Chambers"

1994--this is tough, cuz its my fav year in hip hop, and there were like a dozen classics released. But ill go with: Biggie, "Ready To Die"

1995--Bone Thugs, "E.1999 Eternal" [my fav album of all time]. The Infamous, MATW, Cuban Linx, and Liquid Swords are all tied for a close second.

1996--Tie: 2Pac, "Makaveli" and Outkast "ATLiens"

1997--Bone Thugs, "The Art Of War and Wu Tang, "Forever"

1998--Gang Starr, "Moment Of Truth"

1999--dont remember, dont care

2000--Outkast, "Stankonia"

2001--Cormega, "The Realness" [so far]

94' was sooooooo tough. Look at all these classics I had to choose from!!:

Nas--Illmatic
Biggie--Ready To Die
Bone--Creepin On Ah Come Up
Outkast--Southernplayalistic
Beastie Boys--Ill Communication
Redman--Dare Iz A Darkside
Gang Starr--Hard To Earn
Scarface--The Diary

All of these are classic. Tical [Meth], Thug Life [Pac], and a couple others that arent quite classic are worthy of mention.

Is this meant to be that you can remember from that year or just your favourite albums from that year?

Well It Was Suppose To Be The Albums That You Liked AT THE TIME! And The Albums You Remember Listening To The Most AT THE TIME! They Got To Be Albums You Actually Listened To In Those Years. It Shouldn't Be Albums You Just Recently Bought Or Heard. If You Didn't Listen To It AT THE TIME Don't List It.

But I Didn't Specify...Oh Well!
