Most music by singer-songwriter James Taylor.

There's something about his music, lyrics, voice and themes that just soothes me, mroe so than any hip-hop will ever manage. Especially his 1997 'Hourglass' album, which is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard.

Good thread Infinite, +1.

I've never really got into him. I have most of his stuff but haven't gotten around to listening to them. The only track I consistently listen to is Fire and Rain, which I love. Any songs stand out for you that I should listen to?

As far as my hard times go, I don't have any, hard times that is. 3 meals a day, a roof over my head, no one trying to kill me and no looking over my shoulder when I'm out and about. That reality check kicks in every time I start to feel down about anything. It says "Peter, you're a fucking jackass. You don't have real problems." I've never been sad or mad or down for more than 5 or 6 consecutive minutes.

Murs - Varsity Blues EP
This album, as short as it is, is just amazing. He speaks on everything from accepting that we'll all die one day, relationships and commitment, dealing with people that think they're harder than they are, etc.

Deep Purple - Lazy
This song just puts in all in perspective as far as feeling like shit goes. Anytime I find myself sitting around too much, and not taking care of business, I just think about this song and get my ass up and going. Gotta love lyrics like, "you're lazy, you just stay in bed, you're lazy, you don't want no bread."

Rascal Flatts - When The Sand Runs Out
A country song, yes country, that portrays a guy reminiscing about his friend that lived every day to the fullest to ensure that he would leave his mark on the world. My favorite lyrics are actually the chorus:

I'm gonna stop lookin' back and start movin' on
And learn how to face my fears
Love with all of my heart, make my mark
I wanna leave something here

Go out on a ledge, with out any net
That's what I'm gonna be about
Yeah I wanna be runnin'
When the sand runs out
