^ For me the beat is the problem, now I'm not calling him a sell out, but like I said before, the last thing I wanna hear when I put on a Murs cd is a hyphy beat.

I've been down with Murs for a long time now, not a big fan of his new song, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Yo Justin, do you know when "Murs For President" is dropping?

4th quarter sometime, i dont think theres a solid release date yet. the albums pretty much done for the most part, maybe tidying up a few songs and adding/removing a couple tracks.

As far as Murs goes, this was one thing I was a bit scared off....because I know that he has a very strong, loyal fanbase...but that many fanbases for artists such as him will get mad as hell when the artist does something that's completely different from what they usually do, and they get accused (or correctly labeled) of being sellouts.

So far....I have heard a very wide range of reactions from it, which I expected for this type of track. I played it twice at a party I DJ'd at last night, and some Bay cats were on it HAAAARD. One of them was like "ey, play that Federation song again" and I was like oh, that was Murs, and he was like "who? He from L.A. for real? That shit slap!" At the same time, my homeboy who's a fan of Murs said he doesn't like any single thing about the song, and that Murs is too good to be doing a song like this...and he doesn't even think it's good for a club or hyphy single.

Personally, all bias aside, I think it's a solid track, and I don't think there's a problem with it at all. When his brother was playing me some tracks that might possibly be on the album, many of them did have a commercially acceptable vibe, but this track here is the only one that could really be seen as a "trendy" track, or one that might turn some fans off. However...just as with this track, the other tracks had beats and hooks from established artists and "super" producers...but he was still spittin some knowledge on there. On Dreadlocks, he's not just talkin about scrapin, poppin pills, shakin his dreads to get some females, ghostridin the whip, or anything else. He is still being lyrical on there.

Funny thing is....Murs has actually done a GRIP of songs that could be seen in the same way as "Dreadlocks" if they were on different beats. With this one, I guarantee that if he rapped about Dreadlocks over a 9th or Ant beat, NOBODY would have a problem with it. He had a whole song dedicated to gettin head on "Murs rules the world" that his fans loved....but you take those lyrics and put it on a Lil Jon or Neptunes track, and those same fans call him a sellout.

yo do u know where i can hear or get a mp3 of that song about head I heard it once years ago and loved it, tho murs rules the world outta print, so if u cld let me know id appreciate that

oh and i love this dreadlocks track beat is dope as fuck aswell as the topic

Yeah Murs is heavily underrated, his "LA" song is my favorite. 8)

Snoop has an older Brother called "Dirty Left"
Like Family..not Brother as in Close friend??

Recall Warren G's "Regulate...G-Funk Era" 's single "This DJ", the line "I played ball through the halls of C-I-S/with Snoop Dogg's big brother call him "Dirty Left" also on Dogg Pound 2002, an old snoop verse says "We got a fat sack of blueberry/it's scary/my brother Jerry/He told me one day/ he said Snoop when ya reach the top won't you please blaze a J/ for me"

same guy. Snoop's actually biological older brother Jerry/Dirty Left. cool cat.

Great thread Tanj. We have alot of great talent out here on the west but like others have said it is difficult to figure out what labels want and will push from a artist. You don't want to see a artist compromise the craft just to have a deal or get radio and video plays. I have not heard Dreadlocks but it seems to be the consensus of the forum it is something left field from Murs. As for Bishop it depends on the push from Interscope/Aftermath.

The material is there, just depends on how much of Bishop as a artist is changed or wanting to be changed by the record labels to feel like it will "fit they mold". Glasses is cool and he is in the same boat. Hopefully Cash Money will not do his album like Bang Or Ball and he will still have that West Coast sound with a sprinkle of CMR influence or other outside producers that still allow Glasses to be himself.

I wouldn't even count Glasses as being on a major.

if mack 10 can't do shit for numbers OWNIN' the motherfucker, what chance in hell does glasses have? I'll tell you what chance he has, he better hope dre produces a big single for him and Bishop together for Bishop's shit so Glasses can ride the wave.

furthermore, threads like this make me sad that classic albums like murs:3:16:the 9th edition didn't blow up in the first place. that was such a great fucking record.

That was why I said the formula of for example Snoop over No Limit beats or Mack 10 over Mannie Fresh beats for a whole album does not work. Labels have to learn to cater to a artist's strengths and if CMR will not do that for Mack 10 and Glasses they doing a disservice to both. You gotta have it in moderation and allow west to be west not south or whatever else. I think Mykestro spoke on something in the interview with Nima that made alot of sense. How is a artist on the west do well if they do not even have the backing of they home town or state. Glasses gets mad hood love, but that does not translate to radio spins or label backing. The shit is on some politics right now.

Man, you hit the nail on the fucking head with that one.

Like you said earlier, one or 2 CMR heavy tracks would be cool, proilly to feat. Wayne on em.

But if they dare do a whole CMR south record with these 2,west dudes, it's just not gonna work at all.

Never has, and never will, and I hope Cash Money learns from Bang Or Balls mistakes

well, fuck hood backing. you need the organization you are doing your thing with behind you. Only dude that has that on the new frontier is Bishop. He has all the same backing, if not more, that Game did. s'why I'm saying Glasses perhaps can ride the wave if he retains close affiliation with Bishop as he apparently has. I know it's not how things are supposed to happen, but it's how they do happen.

I agree with the hood backing. Yeah AZ did it with Nas and Ghostface although crew, did the same with Raekwon. Bishop and Glasses track produced by Dre. Follow that up after the success with a Glasses Malone album and that would help out alot. I agree with that.
