But at the same, there's a way 2 do both really..Cube was independent and didn't really "force" any records on his album (besides 1 or 2, and it was a really really long album), and he sold extremely well

I think Cube's last album is one of the most overrated albums of the last few years. Beat wise it sounded like a generic compilation album, which did no good to the record. I hope WC's album isn't going to end up like that. The sampler sounded alright, but the (full) songs that I've heard so far didn't impress me.

While that may be true, all albums these days, with few exceptions, has produced in similar fashion...that is their is a compilation of producers giving beats and the album is layed out accordingly. The days of seeing great, uniform, production carried out on an album are long gone.

How about Sean Kingston or Common? Both have recently dropped a good record with one main producer and I can listen to those records without skipping a song.

Thats why i said with few exceptions...i'll try to find a link to an article that actually talks about how Commons new album is a rarity with the Kanye production etc...and its even worse among westcoast artists

Cool... but you know what? People do appreciate these exceptions more. I remember when everyone praised Common because BE was so amazing... but then you come to your senses and realize that that album was good, but by far not as good as one-producer-albums they dropped back in the days lol

Oh...i completely agree with that, and thats why most people dont call LNCL a classic....which is why i dont think its overrated to begin with. Most people i've seen think of it as a 4 mic album, bounceback album from Cube on the emceeing tip...but uneven production.

most albums had 1 producer running the show or almost the whole show...

Nas "illmatic" was pretty much the first line up of super producers..... it worked for that album, but most since seem like they have no personal identity..

ice cube's albums aretnt about beats, their about content, every word he says is amaizng, its like he's telling tou a stroy onm each song with a key message in them.

listen to ghetto bird on lethal injection, sure the beat is actually good, but just listen to the words he uses and how cleverly he dies them.

LNCL was the only album i bought in 2006. u dont like the beat, ok thats fair, but if u just want good beats, go listen to some dance music or some booty shaking music, i ce cube isnot about club and booty lusic, he's far more politically charged, and that y he went indie, to play songs he wanted.

and he has never ever had anyone write his lyrics for him, as he said, "fcuk a ghost writer".

defineily the best lyricist and flowing rapper the west has ever produced in my opinion. 2pac was good too, but difference is this

ice cube=gangsta       2pac=thuglife

Beats is almost completely subjective. It is really up to the listener what they do or don't like when listening to a album. I thought the beats on LNCL were dope and I am sure somebody as said or already said the beats on GBA by WC will be weak. But IMO the songs I have heard the beats are sick so it's up to the person listening to it to make that decision. It's a opinion at the end of the day.

It definetely is subjective...i know a lot of people who criticize the beats on an album like Bow Down...and i cant believe i cause to me hat album beatwise is among the GOATs. But it really is subjective...unlike like lyrics which for the most part are evident.

Yeah..but thats the point of his post...there is NOTHING wrong with preferring music "you can bump your head to"...but if that is indeed your preference, then Ice Cube is not the artist for you. On the other hand, if you want to hear someone drop knowledge on his tracks, then put in an Ice Cube CD.

True, and Ice Cube has had dope beats almost his entire career.
