most albums had 1 producer running the show or almost the whole show...

Nas "illmatic" was pretty much the first line up of super producers..... it worked for that album, but most since seem like they have no personal identity..

No personal identity is SOOO correct. It's like the pro and the artist don't even talk about song concepts anymore, it seems like it's just "pick one of these beats, gimme my cash, nigga" with hardly any mutual collaboration between the 2
