What the hell is going on with Dr. Dre?

First of all, I'm not hating on dude. He's put in over 20 years of hard work and has earned the right to say "fuck the music business" if he wants to. BUT, until he does that, he still has 20+ years of dedicated fans waiting for everything with his name on it.

In recent years, he pretty much hasn't done shiet. Now when he takes on a project we pretty much expect it to never come out. And if it does come out its either gonna have very lil input from Dre ("Curtis") or a bunch of mediocre tracks from Dre ("Encore"). I'm old enough to remember when the Dre joint was the best part of an artists' album, now he's getting outdone on albums ("The Big Bang"),

Someone needs to tell Dre to deliver or retire.

Who outdid Dre on beats on The Big Bang. Lets not forget Dre is a PRODUCER, not just making beats. So he made alot of beat makers beats on that album tighter. I think his output of beats has lowered but he still drops quality material.

he gave away some of his album beats on past projects.... maybe he's finally saving the best for himself? who knows.... but Dre at mediocre is still better than a lot...

D~Nice has a point. He is an all round producer is a God when it comes to mixing and shit even though he now sucks a simple beat making (at least compared to his old shit).

Imagine and Boss Life where my fav two songs on TBCT and i think he had some of the best beats on Jays album so i don't think he's completely fell off. His beats are just quite simplistic for his standard... Hopefully he's just lowering expectation so people's expectations lower. Like Aftermath Presents and The Firm did unintentionally.

but the thing is ... once again.... I never said that there weren't tons of good producers out there. You made that part up....

All I stated was that are a lot of producers out there that Dre even at mediocre sounds better than...and that doesn't mean they suck also. There are just a lot of factors when you consider a song produced by Dr. Dre. The beat is just one factor... There is also the quality of sound in it's mixing... The direction given to an artist so that their words go hand in hand with the music...

Maybe what you've been hearing lately hasn't moved you...and I can see that especially since the standard that he has set for himself is higher than a mutherfucker.... but I've learned over the years to never count this guy out. When people count him out, he strikes.... and the same people that counted him out find themselves kissing his ass again... It's a cycle that has gone on since 87....

dre fall off years ago... ...but alot of his shit is still dope and better than other producers work....like  his production/mixing on snoop/busta/jay-z albums..these beats arent groundbraking but they good and mixed well....maybe he is saving his best shit for detox and one or 2 albums that will come out before it

People overrates mixing ... Dre actually makes some beats sound better by adding elements here and there ... mixing and additional production are 2 different things ... as great as Dre is at mixing , he couldn't save these loud Just Blaze beats on Jay album which sound horrible in a great system ...

Im at the stage, where Im having 0,1 % hope that Detox will be good, hence Dre dumbing his shit down, to make Detox that more spectacular.

The thing Im also pissed at is his presence on his own label artists. Excluding Eminem, he gives his label mates like 3,4 beats tops. Look at Timbaland, hes giving his artists 8,9 beats.

After Em, the only artists who had that Dre presence on the whole album, was Busta and that album turned out to be great. Its a shame.

I am having high hopes for Bishop though, he seems like the first rapper after Em and Snoop, to really bring that passion back.
