West Coast Street Albums/Mixtapes Appreciation Thread
« on: December 06, 2007, 10:32:11 PM »
Man I was just thinking back to all the mixtapes and street albums that have dropped this year and the quality of material was top notch this year from the west. Big ups to Dubcnn and all the artists that dropped albums this year. The west really is not known nationwide for mixtapes but this year it was like 3-5 a month dropping damn near. Holla back in the thread and talk about your favorite albums, mixtapes, whatever.

Topic's was dope as fuck and Shame's California I still bang that album. Mad political.

Topic is from West Covina. He dropped a street album called Coast Guard here a couple of months ago. Shame is from The Bay. Dope rapper, music is diverse, but with a message. Think a sprinkle of FAB and The Coup. He is talking about alot of issues that need to be discussed that alot of rappers are not talking about. He dropped a street album, all original beats, around February (California). One of the best albums this year from the west that alot of peeps are sleeping on.

I agree with Topic & Shame.  Both had dope albums.  Shame had a cool video for his "lead single" "What's Gangsta" that's on Youtube.

You already know about the other great releases from Bishop Lamont & Taje.

Don't forget Conviced "I Do It For The People"  That was a pretty dope CD with some really great beats by J Traxx

I agree that Topic tape was good. I checked it after that intial thread you made on it and it deffinenlty has some dope cuts. Taje's is album is overrated imo, the beats aren't that good although i may need it here it in a better system.

Yep I like these street albums, good mean to create an interest from the fans ... I don't know for y'all but I don't own or download one single mixtape .. I really don't see the interest to spit on another artist beat ... anyways can somebody make a complete list of the street albums which dropped this year from the West ? Thanks in advance  8)

i'm not really a fan of recycled beats either, so i think it's great that some artists release street albums.
and they have full control over it, which is not really the case with a regular album ( i'm not saying it's better to be independant, than being signed to a major label; but for artists like bishop, it's questionable whether the label allows them to do similar things for the "regular" album, as with the street albums; and i'm not just talking about the singles).
