I Just Heard M.J.'s New Song...
« on: June 24, 2001, 07:14:38 PM »
Hey Yall;
 I Just Heard A Real Low-Quality Version Of A New Michael Jackson Song, And It Sounds Dope.  New School Beat, Like Some Trance Sounding Hypnotic Stuff.  Sounds VERY HipHopish... It's Like Dance Hip Hop Or Somethin' New Like That...

The Vocals Are Real Cool, Old Sounding Stuff, Like The Type Of Stuff He Did On Thriller... Melodic And Really Trippy Sounding, Like It's OLD Vocals From Years Ago Or Something (Reverb, Etc.)... Reminds Me Of How The Beatles Did "Free As A Bird" With The Old John Lennon Vocals... Crazy...

Only Part I Could Make Out Was

"Can't Stop Me Now...
Cuz... I'm Too Strong...
She Said It...
I Do'nt Really Get it...
So Tell Me.. She's So ... "

I Can't Make It Out What He's Saying, But It Sounds Good Though, I Think He's Gonna Actually Pull It Off This Time... I Would Post It Up, But Somebody Let Me Hear It And Told Me Not To Pass It Around.  Plus, This Is Probably The Worst Quality Tape I've Ever Heard.  Sounds Like It Was Recorded Off A Walkman Headphone In The Car With The Windows Rolled Down :)

Here's Some More News: Dogg's Singing Falsetto Again, Like On "Rock With You"...

Article:
Over and over, Rodney plays a bit of the bridge or a piece of the chorus, dissecting a part here, inserting a new sound there. After a long 48 hours of limo rides, glad-handing and idle industry chitchat, he is finally in his element. "From the top," he says, after countless takes. "Until we get this. It's coming."

Later, during a brief break, Rodney and Grimson sit alone, discussing the untitled, unreleased Michael Jackson album. Grimson engineered the songs Rodney recorded with Jackson, and both seem anxious for the reclusive singer to loose the record on the world. "'Invincible' was the most fun for me, out of everything we did," Rodney says of a song he hopes will make the final cut. "When he did those falsetto things, I was like, 'Whoa, he hasn't done that since Off The Wall.' When he gets it tight, there's no one tighter."

As part of a $5 million hybrid production deal that established Darkchild as a subsidiary label of Sony Music, Rodney cooked up 50 to 60 instrumental tracks, eight of which became fully developed Michael Jackson songs. The album was set for a spring release, but thanks to Jackson's perfectionism, it may not hit the streets before year's end. "I want to finish," Grimson says as Rodney nods. "It's hard to stay ahead of the curve when you record 75 percent of the album and it takes a year to finish it."

Despite industry rumors to the contrary, Rodney insists both Jackson and Sony are thrilled with the songs he produced. He is upset, though, about the intro to a track called "Rock My World." Like many of Rodney's songs, it starts with an ad-libbed line or two, including Jackson's shout-out to Darkchild: "quote tk." An executive cut out the Darkchild reference but left the rest of the intro intact. Rodney would rather pull the song than let it go with the edit:

Rodney met Jackson briefly as a 16-year-old through Teddy Riley, and then again in 1999 through a mutual friend, songwriter Carol Bayer Sager (who has written for Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, and hubby Bart Bachrach). It wasn't long before Jackson was at Darkchild Studios, working up a sweat in the vocal booth and pushing every take until Rodney made him rest. Jackson indulged in a little home cooking as well, raving over the peach cobbler Sylvia Jerkins baked for him.

Rodney also spent a lot of time with Jackson outside the studio. One day, while playing pool at Jackson's Manhattan apartment, they decided the loser would buy the winner a stack of dvd movies. Jackson won, and wanted to cash in immediately. He called his driver to take them and his two bodyguards on a shopping spree at the Times Square Virgin Megastore, where, in less than an hour, shoppers saw through Jackson's odd dashiki-looking disguise. He and Rodney escaped through the back entrance, past a waiting photographer posse, taking home an armload of James Bond films. Rodney feels for his new friend. "Michael's been so dehumanized by the public and the paparazzi, it forces him not to want to go places," he says. "I remember somebody was outside his house waiting for him to walk out, and he said, 'Why do they do this to me?'"
