Dre joints that he should've kept for Detox?
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:41:28 PM »
Assuming things were laid out differently, which recent Dre beats ya'll think he should've kept in the stash and tucked away for Detox? I got a couple in mind,

Busta's "Get You Some" could have been a potential single for Detox. I remember reading an interview in which Busta said Dre had that beat created for Detox, but decided to give it to Busta because he needed that specific banger to open up and introduce his album. That makes perfect sense, but one has to wonder what that track would've sounded like if Dre rapped on it. Actually, most of the shit Dre did for Busta could've been worthy of Detox at one time. But with Dre giving away so many beats over the years, I'm thinking what he's actually keeping in the stash.

Yeah, Don't Get Carried Away is another. When I think of a 'Detox' style beat, I think of switch ups in the beat and chord changes every several bars. A few other examples that I can think of include

Obie Trice's "Oh!"
Em, Dre, 50 "Encore"
Game "Don't Worry" ( during his verses )
Game "Start From Scratch" ( not so much in terms of switch ups but in beat pattern and layering )
Busta "Cocaina"

That Encore beat was CRAZY.

the encore beat was one of the worst dre beats i heard in ages, it was so rigid and eminem like it hardly even sounded like a westcoast cat made the beat imo...

the only joint from bustas album to me which is detox studio session material is the get you some beat...wasnt impressed with dres other shit on the album...i think the beat for nas and busta was dissapointing....i think the beat with the grave digging effect was def made with detox in mind or atleast on some creative shit but overall the beat is not very good...cocaina is a nice joint but the beat is boring...dont worry is ncie during game verses yes but detox material?....

start from scratch is def detox worthy and so were oh and the setup was a banger to instrumental wise...would have been perfect for snoop to rap over....but nothing dre has done recently really even comes into mind when in thinkin of detox....

i think you need to check 2001 again and some of his beats the year or 2 after that and remind yourself of real dre beats...

and i know you're a big dre fan and got good knowledge so u know your dre shit but really i dont think hardly any of the shit mentioned in this thread is comin into detox, if dre thought any of it was good enough, he would have kept it imo...

I agree with you that Dre ain't hitting them out the park like he used to. The beats I mentioned were not my particular favorites, just a few joints that illustrated that concept of the beat switching up and shit. As long as the sound is fresh, I'll dig it but lately, there hasn't been anything too noteworthy to come out of Dre's studio.

well, this has been discussed in the serious detox topic already,
and i've got to agree with Dawaun parker on this one:
Quote
Dubcnn: Well let's see if you can speak about this then. Some time ago Scratch did an article on the Detox project. It mentioned tracks that Dre affiliates thought were possibly produced with Detox in mind. Examples cited were Obie Trice's "The Set Up" and The Game's "Runnin'." Do you know of any other beats that were at one point considered for Dre's album?

Nah, at least in stuff prior to me getting there, I wouldn't know at all. I haven't asked Doc too much about that stuff. You know, most articles and all that stuff aren't super-legit. You know what I mean? I think that when it comes to this project, and the Doc's stuff in particular and all that, people just want to have any kind of information. You got internet kids who really believe it when they see Detox downloads and stuff online, it's so crazy! But anyway, If they can somehow attribute it to that, they're like, "Oh, well, we heard that Detox is supposed to come out. We've been hearing about it for a while." They're kind of assuming that every beat that they think is hot and Dre is attached to which ends up on someone else's record, they're thinking that that's stuff that was for Detox and it's not.

I mean, to me, I think that if it would have been for Detox, it will be on Detox! You know what I'm saying? I think people aren't looking at it like that. The stuff that's for the record is for the record! You're going to hear it when it's on the record. I don't really know about anything that maybe he was considering then decided, "Nah. I'ma use that on another project." I don't – I can't confirm any of that. I've another thing about that, too. I think Dre has the quality of coming out with the best stuff that he can for his artists. I wouldn't think he or any of us have the mentality of, "Oh, let's keep this beat for this and just give you this." It's like, "Nah, let's put the best thing that's going to work out for whatever record."

offcourse, dre may have a different vision about it than us  ;) so i can't say that the tracks that he picks for detox are better than the ones that are mentioned before (either by me, or by others in the serious detox topic, or other detox related topics).

Ok, so let's we only pick the beats after 2003, since that's the new era of Dre's production:

50 Cent - In Da Club, Heat
G-Unit - Poppin Them Thangs, G'd Up
Obie Trice - Oh, Look In My Eyes, Shit Hits The Fan
Mary J. Blige - Not Today
Eminem - Encore (Big Weenie and Rain Man are also nice but I can't really judge them since Em sucked so much)
The Game - How We Do, Higher, Start From Scratch
50 Cent - Outta Control, Gunz Come Out, Outta Control remix
GRODT OST - When It Rains It Pours (it kinda reminds me of the last track of 2001, same vibe)
Busta Rhymes - Get You Some, Been Through The Storm, Cocaina, Goldmine, Don't Get Carried Away (especially the chours!)
Jay-Z - Trouble (but more changes in the beat!)
Snoop Dogg - Imagine
Stat Quo - Here We Go

BTW Larabee you need to update this: http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=103016.0

50 Cent - In Da Club,
G-Unit - Poppin Them Thangs, G'd Up

These three would've been great too.
