RESPECT FOR THE SOUTH
« on: February 28, 2008, 12:14:30 PM »
when the whole southern shit started to happen i was the worst hater of all, lil john and all that other shit, i always thought it was all just garbage music and really didnt pay it any attention, i even stopped listening to the radio. but it all started to change i gave young jeezy a listen (i love it, mr 15, corporate thugging) , then got into T.I (know bout that, big shit poppin), rick ross secured it, guy has an excellent ear for beats. port of miami is easily one of my favorite albums. his new tracks that ive heard both from other threads are both dope, im actually anticipating thrilla.

just recently i downloaded lil waynes entire discography off a torrent site, shit blew me away.

for people who hate on the south, this is from an person from L.A, you should give the music a good listen, there beats are hot, lyrics are good (sometimes), they got that gangster shit, and they are united.

hopefully the same shit happens in the west coast too, since all the new rappers are similar, jay rock g malone bishop lamont ect are all united hot lyricist, id say they just need to be more consistent picking hot beats.

During the last few years, the West fell off (with a few good albums here and there, such as Cube, MC Eiht, WC and a few Bay Area cars) and the South has been making the best music.
And I am talking about artists like - Chamillionaire, Z-Ro, Trae, Scarface and the Geto Boys, David Banner, UGK, Devin, and the list goes on... The South has been hella HOT the last 5 years, and they deserve the success, even though less talented artists such as Lil Jon, Young Jeezy and TI get the most recognition.

The South ALWAYS has had dope artists. The big thing now is that you have ALOT of wack crunk/dance/pop ringtone artists coming more from the South then anywhere else and their music gets lumped in with all the other southern artists. There is a big difference in Scarface and Soulja Boy but to the average listener that don't really take the time to check out other music, they probably think the south is just crunk.

see there you go right there, i mean i already knew about scarface and the ghetto boys and ugk (pocket full of stones) but people like chamilionare and david banner i never really gave a chance just because they were from the south. but i dissagre with you on your last comment about ti and jeezy i mean to me they love the music and have heart, to me theyre talented, just cause they dont spit like all technical n complicated n shit doesnt mean theyre not talented.

the whole 2pac arguemnt he really wasent that good of a rapper but he spit from the heart and he loved hip hop.

Haha, "Since When" pretty much sums up this whole argument.

Just because a certain region or genre sounds repetitive, there is bound to be some good work. It was also brought up in the topic about artists from the West not focused on gangbanging, and just because gangsta rap sounds played out right now, it's really just that there are so many weak to average rappers who we hear rapping about that. With the South, we had all those Lil' Jon beats for years (they were cool for the clubs), all the dance craze/ringtone rappers like D4L, Franchise Boys, etc., but there is definitely some talent. 3-6 Mafia had some cool stuff, Little Brother and the whole Justus League are from North Carolina, which I'm not sure where it is considered but they are dope.
I got a bird's eye view

less talented? Lil Jon got dope beats. Jeezy had two cool albums and TI has had 2 classics.

South artists are as good as any region in the US.

However, it seems as if the radio and mainstream pump the weak rappers from the south and present it to the conservative listener, making those listeners believing that the "South is garbage"...which is a stereotype and stereotypes do have some relevance behind them.

Chamillionare is probably my favorite artist right now, and im an offical west coast head...most of the material i consume is 95% west coast related.

Pick up 2 gats like Riley with a full 16 clip, on some sick shit like Lynch, while rippin a bitch's clit with beyonce's mouth on the tip of my dick.

this is exactly what i was getting at, i would hear all the weak rappers on the radio and i just assumed it was a new thing in the south, and threw all the other quality ones in the same category.

Jobology (take out a pad & pencil)

"no respect for them down south dusty ass niggas!!! they crack me up they come out with these bootleg, simple ass corny dances and all of a sudden that shit blows up. shit cracks me up"

hahaha

radio deejays just play what they're told to play, thats why i get hyped up when a song like jay rocks all my life comes out, 2 dope rappers really good beat, and they are saying some quality shit.

Most of the new southern artists are garbage. Cham, Luda, Clipse, Neptunes, Outkast, Geto Boys, UGK, Devin + a couple others arre the only ones i check for.

Ross is crap and a Biggie wannabe
TI is a Jay Z wannabe but he does have some hot tracks
Jeezy can't rap for shit
Wayne has gotten worse and worse, doin t pain and reggae shit now

And then theres a whole pile of other crap like Plies, Soulja Boy, Shawty Lo etc South got some hot undeground artists though.

ross trying to imitate biggie? man have you ever listened to his music?

TI a jay-z wannabe? the fuck? that's the first time i've ever heard anyone say that LOL

wayne is either hit or miss. he has alot of dope shit and alot of wack shit. it's up for you to decide if the dope shit outweighs the wack shit. for me dope > wack.
