just from the selection of instrumentals listed so far it wouldnt be anywhere near the level of chronic or 2001

Word. But they are all still very good productions.

there are a few no doubt, some sick ones aswell but nothing game changing. chronic and 2001 flipped the script, nothing dre has put out recently or has released for these niggaz would have done. Okat joints like in da club and a few other did flip the script for these artists but dre knows he will need to step to continue to changin the game when detox comes out. When 2001 came out, the whole game changed. I doubt dre wil be able to do that again but still i agree some of those productions are very good but some of then aint nuttin

The ones listed so far would be way better than 2001 IMO - that had a quite a few filler beats even though the dope ones were mad dope

I thought Get You Some, Here We Go, The Set Up and a few others were better beats than anything on 2001

Not to me homie, i'm sure most would agree that the beats mentioned so far would not even come close to what 2001 achieved and its not just about that, you gotta have the right artist over the beat, the right direction, hunger and topic and crazy shit to make a classic.

I agree 2001 had filler on it but its crazy that still to this day it is and will always be considered a classic even with the filler. Why? Because it totally flipped the script for the hiphop game, how niggaz would produce, the sound of hiphop changed made, it was gangsta shit and the sound for the future.

None of the beats mentioned so far would top that. Get you some was nice but even dre felt it was not detox worthy, bangin beat though. Here we go...the stat joint if you are talking about then well thats nothing...its a nice beat...dope nothing great at all...The set up is one of my fav beats off cheers, snoop dre and devon would have killed thaT..................BUT nothing mentioned so far tops half the shit on 2001 let alone the chronic.

STILL DRE, NEXT EPSIDOE, WATCHER, BIG EGOS, XXPLOSIV, WHATS THE DIFFERENT, FORGOT ABOUT DRE....this is classic dre shit without a doubt, true to the form dre beats, top form beats, will be remembered as 5/5 joints....not many of dres joints now are fuckin with that shit....some of dres greatest creations were on 2001....(still dre, next episode, watcher, forgot about dre, whats the difference etc).....either some of y'all were not there when that dropped or forgot how far ahead of the game 2001 was when it dropped. I just hope detox continues that trend and it is also why dre is taking so long with it because he knows it gon be a tough job to top that. If anyone can though...it is that nigga dre.

I'll drop my own list aswell in a second

aight 13 tracks...NOT FUCKING WITH 2001 but some nice shit and bangin shit dre has done since then

1-get you some (intro)
2-start from scratch - one of dres best post 2001 beats (DRE SOLO)
3-How we do - Dre 50 Game snoop
4-westside story - Dre Snoop Game
5-In da Club - Dre 50
6-G'd up - Dre Cube Eminem Nate dogg
7-Poppin them thangs- Dre xzibit Game Snoop
8-Trouble - Dre jigga Nas
9-The Setup - Dre snoop kurupt Devin
10-Oh! -Dre xzibit eminem
11- Dre tribute outro - either solo or everyone he played a role with in the joint

Did start with 13 joints but at 10 i got stuck and i think these are up there with some of dres better shit in a minute. I also think they're more suited to dre, as in either bangers or westcoast, probably his better beats he has done in a long ass time too. Do i think it could fuck with chronic or 2001 just on instrumentals? HELL NAWWWW....i think they were special albums becuase they just happened, they were so natural, so full of hunger and desire and enthuisasm. I hope when detox really drops it is not forced and is full of the same shit that made the previous efforts so good but i hope the shit does not sound washed up or rigid. Dre used to make shit that was so funky but still so musically correct. I hope he can finds that funk in his music again.

By the way there was no place for bishop on my 10 joints, nuttin against the nigga, im sure his album will be off the chain but i do not agree with him being the "next nigga2 on detox. A 30 yr old protege who frolm what i've heard is dope but thats where it stops so far. I would like someon young to make a bang on detox, someone unique like snoop, someone withs a young eminems hunger, someone fresh to the game that we dont really know shit on. But still if bishop has many spots on detox dre better make sure he either comes correct or he gets his verse replaced by someone who fits better.

Sure, at the moment those beats are like the only hot beat on the albums they're off of, and what made 2001 dope is that there are several dope beats all on the same album, which dudes is having trouble putting together right now - also with Detox we'd assume he'd have better vocals on the tracks, better collabs, so we're only talking about the beats. If the beats from 2001 were all spread out on other people's albums we'd only think they were just ok too, rather than amazing

I agree 2001 had filler on it but its crazy that still to this day it is and will always be considered a classic even with the filler. Why? Because it totally flipped the script for the hiphop game, how niggaz would produce, the sound of hiphop changed made, it was gangsta shit and the sound for the future.

It's not really considered a proper classic with hiphop heads, it's a damn good album, but has a lot of filler and a lot of mediocre verses, which stopped it being in the same league as The Chronic or other classic hiphop albums

It didn't really change much either - The Chronic changed the game because it blew gangsta rap into the mainstream and suddenly everyone had a g-funk beat with whiny synths on it on their albums. With 2001 gangsta rap was already tired and people were hoping he'd go in a different direction so it was disappointing that the content was all G shit even though most of the beats banged. Also the sound he brought in didn't really switch stuff up - we had already had sparse hard synthy beats from other people

2001 was a good 4/5 album when it came out... it only seems like a 5/5 now because of all the wack shit that has come out and because there is so little competition album-wise, but it doesn't stand up with true hiphop classics

Those joints aren't THAT amazing, I prefer the beats Dre has been doing recently - also remember that 2001 was when Dre had only just started making those stripped down beats and now he's had time to perfect them IMO, and his new beats make 2001 beats seem a little bit messy

Next Episode - even though it is a dope track it was a pretty big disappointment for a lot of Dre fans - Snoop's verse is kinda soft and weak, Dre's verse is nothing special and it pales in comparison with the original Next Episode that was meant to be on Doggystyle

Still DRE is ok, but that beat is not any better than Get You Some or The Set Up, etc

Watcher is ok, but again, beat is dope but not better than any of his new stuff

Big Egos has a boring beat and boring verses - that one is a filler track for sure

Xplosive has a great beat, but the verses are pretty wack (especially compared to the original Royce the 5'9 lyrics written for Dre, which were waaaaay doper, he should have kept them)

Whats The Difference and Forgot About Dre are perfect though, I'll give you that

I respect your opinion but i gotta say first of all, you speak of hiphop heads but im as hiphop as it gets, ask the ogs on this forum, we know whats poppin and 2001 is considered a classic with hiphop heads. Not higher up on the list of all time classic, infact pretty low down on a list but it still makes the list. Why? because similar to the effect chronic had in marking the deathrow era, gansgsta rap etc, 2001 was the defining point of marking the aftermath era, the new sound and rebirthing gangsta rap for a while. It is considered a classic and also it changed the game musically because it bought a whole new level of shit into the game and go check around and you will see poeple for years to come tried to copy the style of 2001 and the effect it had on the game musically. 2001 had filller on it without doubt but tracks 1-11 pretty much were all perfect and the drop off in quality came in the second half of the album  which is kinda symbolic because it was the young westcoast cats who have no failed in there bid for fame that failed to live up on 2001 and dropped weak verses. Yet it is still considered a classic for the first half, how it did change the game and the effect it had on an era after that. dre 1999-2001 is better than most shit he done since, he did have up points on GRDOT, CHEERS AND DOC but that was it and still not all on 2001 level. 2001 was a 5/5 album back then, today with the bullshit that is droppin, it is a 6/5 album no doubt.

Everyone has there own ear but you claim a joint like still dre is on the level of those beats you mentioned...lol...homie still dre by many is considered the peak of dres career, the career defining moment, the best beat he made, thats how good a beat that is. Next episode was a 5/5 joint also and on another level to those u mentioned. watcher again, big egos was a classic joint, not sure about as an instrumental alone but as a joint, dang...

you mention forgot about dre and whats the difference as being perfect yet you dismiss next episode, still dre, expolsiv, watcher etc...these are on the exact same level as those beats...you a big eminem fan? snoop hater or something? Because the beats i mentioned are some of dres finest. Some of the beats mentioned in this thread do not even touch his shit on 2001...

alot of that shit should not be in the same sentence as a beat from the top half of 2001.  As for dres newer shit, people have been saying dre has been falling off for a while now and thats both hiphop and dre fans so whilst you may be diggin his new sound most people are not and that is why dre has delayed detox again to go change up the sound on detox and get some better beats done. I have faith in dre to drop a banger and i am sure it will be but dre knows he needs to step it up 10000% from the shit he been droppin recently.

Alright, well I guess we don't see things the same way - I still don't agree with it's impact or the dopeness of the beats on 2001, though I do accept that 2001 could be seen as a classic if it's lower down a list of classic albums (props on not flaming me though, mad unusual on this board as far as I've seen lol)

I'm not really a Eminem or Snoop fan, though I think when they're on point they're both really on point, but I felt Snoop wasn't bringing a lot of heat on 2001, while on the other hand Eminem was hitting his peak at that time (though I prefer Snoop's vocals on Doggystyle over anything Eminem has done, even though Em is more technically impressive)

Some of the lists so far for me would make a better album than 2001, though it's hard to argue why I think something like the Get You Some beat is better than Still DRE, even though to my ears it is. They're both pretty sparse, Still DRE only has 2 notes as the main melody, and then those synth bass string things underneath and the echoey few notes that happen every during the chorus, etc, while Get You Some I think has a doper melody, and the sounds aren't so obviously from a keyboard as Still DRE is and I also think the drums and the mixing in general is harder and tighter on Get You Some - it snaps louder and harder and sounds more organic, and also clearer at the same time

I think the reason people would say Still DRE is better is just because Get You Some was a beat off an album that didn't do too well and had a lot of forgettable stuff on it, while Still DRE was on the 2nd album of a legendary producer who only has 2 albums and it was the lead single off that album and both the song and the album did really well - I think that clouds a lot of people's judgment on how good that beat really is
Imagine if that Still DRE beat had been an album track from like a Young Buck album or whoever, and had Young Buck on it and it wasn't a single and it was on an album no one really remembered too well - would you still think that beat was as amazingly good?
It'd still be a dope beat in the same way Get You Some is a dope beat, but people wouldn't be holding it in such high esteem

Hopefully Dre's been saving some even doper beats for Detox, but I think the fact that they are on Detox and are grouped with other tight beats all on one album with dope verses would make them seem better even if they really aren't that much more amazing
