This is tough, I don't think Warren invented G-Funk all by himself.  Dre had input, when Snoop came along, then his way of things influenced even Dre's music into GFunk.  It all depends on what YOUR definition of "G-Funk" really is.

In my opinion Peeps like Bootsy Collins, Parliament and Ohio Players are the people who prepared the path for G-Funk. There music was the influence for G-Funk in the first place. Yes people like Big Hutch, Dre and Warren G helped make it blow up and gave it a new name (G-Funk) but its really a new form of P-Funk, just mixed with that hardcore gangsta rap.

everybody has got some tight points on this thread8)8)8)yall are more Dre fans than me im more into ATL than Dre so really i aint ever gonna b able to agree with u on this shit. Peeps r right 2 say that it aint as if anyonne of the three invented funk but as far as G-funk goes Big Hutch and Above The Law are the orginators orginators. I would argue wit u when u say the chronic is more advanced than black mafia life to me it sounds more glossy and commercially acceptable. About Warren G he was stayin at Hutches house before he went and hooked up wit snoop and dre so even though that is the styel in which he produces , i dont think he created that shit. Black Mafia Life as a project started before the chronic while dre was still on Ruthless so certain aspects of that album to me must have been bitten of black mafia life. whether u think the chronic is better or not. on niggaz4life above the law and warren g are on the intro if u listen and that album really started what were all talkin about..... ill get back on this one the time difference between me and yall is fucking this shit up8)

i agree with trauma that warren g has made g funk his own and dre only popularised it...

however, i think that the origins of g funk are more of a westcoast musical movement (in the late 80's early 90's) than one persons ideas or concepts.

in short, i dont think any one person is responsible for the g funk sound....more like a combination of peeps and their musical influences...

Wel yeah B diggy, Clinton,Collins and P-funk are the originators but that wasn't the point,we were talkin about who for the first time presented g-funk as a fully finished product and how the fuck you gonna say warren was hanging out with ATL before he hooked up with snoop when warren g and snoop been best friends since age 12-13? what the fuck? Warren G would go with Dre to the studio while NWA was making Efil4zaggin, and ATL being on ruthless as well were there too, Warren G got to hang wit ATL and NWA...and ATL is on "Prelude" but not Warren G,if so,then where?also I agree that g-funk really came about as a musical movement in the 80's-90's responsible to many people, but i'm talking about who first presented it as a finished product and that was Dre or ATL, i think it was probably The D.O.C.'s Grand Finale or ATL's The Last Song (which came first?) because it embodies what G-funk is, P-funk gangsta-rap-ified updated for the new generation...which P-funk is it derivative from? None other than Parliament's "Chocolate City" peep that song and You will recognize that beat. But as JakeDogg once said...rap has always been envisioned as rhyming words over funk beats...but not counting that we could look as far back as "A Bitch Iz A Bitch" and compare that beat to the first few minutes of mothership connection(star child),while it's not the same thing, musically it's very similar..in other words You be the judge, but it was probably Dre or ATL....peace-Tanjint

it'z kinda hard 2 say who created G-Funk, ya know.  i mean, tha only point Tanjint never mentioned BESIDEZ Dre helping Warren out on producin iz that Warren and Snoop started a group up called 213.  they would make songz Warren would produce, although hiz beats weren't all that.  then later on Nate Dogg wuz added.  so u can go either way on it, wether it wuz Dre or Warren who created it.  but if u ask me, i'd have 2 say that Above The Law did it first......
