Redman - Muddy Waters

What y'all think about this album? Incase you haven't heard it, just check out the spot.

One of the best albums from Reggie, might be my favorite one, tracks like "Creepin", "Iz He 4 Real", "Rollin", "Whateva Man", "Da Bump" are all straight muthafuckin classics.

At the time it was released I was REALLY disappointed with it.

I thought his previous album, 'Dare iz A Darkside', was astounding. The beats, rhymes and overall tone of the album completely redefined in my mind what an emcee could acheive. I still think it's an underrated masterpiece.

I went into 'Muddy Waters', then, with high expectations. But it just sounded too 'normal' to me. That's a weird word to use in describing a Redman record, I guess, but it seemed like a step backwards from the 'out there' vibes of 'Darkside'. That said, there were some tracks I loved immediately, like 'It's Like That' with K-Solo and the joint with meth produced by Pras from the Fugees (!).

Today, though, I like it a lot. Listening to it as a record in its own right and not as a follow-up to one of my favourite hip-hop albums ever, I can appreciate that it's still head and shoulders above many of the other releases at the time - and the records Red released after (I'd rather hear 'Muddy Waters' today than 'Doc's da Name' or 'Malpractice').

Props for bringing it up. But 'Dare is a Darkside' still shits over everything else Reggie has done :P

Red's first three are classics. He's Top 10 all time and if not that then somewhere between 11-15 and if he ain't on your list than FUCK YOU j/k. Most underrated. Influenced top tier rappers of today Eminem and Ludacris. Doc's Da Name was great. Malpractice was sub-par. Red Gone Wild was nice.

Mostly agree w/ Lord Funk.  His 1st three are classics to me, w/ Muddy Waters being my least fav but still a great album when you consider it by itself.  Whut! and Darkside are phenomenal.
