Ruth deserves an * just like Bonds today playing a juiced era. From the time Jackie Robinson played to the time Jose Canseco put that needle to his arm was when you can truly judge the best batters. Before then we don't even consider Negro League players in this list, you better believe I'll mention Josh Gibson when we do catchers.
you know like I know that some scrimage games are different than being in a league and pitchers learning to play against someone. Ruth was never fully tested as he could have been. He hit hard, great, people were in awe of him, of course, he was the biggest name in sports then. But his era was not a true test to baseball. The Negro League peaked in the 20's, it had it's greatest players. It's different to be like, hey I'm Babe Ruth, want to play, and going up against Babe for a chance to make the playoffs. You know that and I know that. People would respect A-Rod if he went to Cuba and played, but those same players would go so hard if they had on a Red Sox uniform that the game would change.
