The Babe.  The real Bonds died in 98.

The Babe was one hell of a womanizer and could drink like 30 beers in one sitting.

Bobby Bonds>Barry Bonds

Ruth.

Anyone read that article that says if Ruth was playing in today sized fields..he'd have close to 800 homeruns?

Out of the top 10 seasons of all time by a player...Ruth has the #1 season.

babe ruth was everything bonds was, but more

ruth changed the way baseball was played, AND WON 7 RINGS IN THE PROCESS (0 for bonds)

can bonds pitch?

not get excited?

umm Ruth was a .342 career hitter with 700 homers, 500 doubles, 100 triples, 100 SB's 2000 walks, 90 WINS AS A STAR PITCHER and 7 world championships

he broke the HR record in 1919, broke his own records in 1920, 1921 and finally again in 1927

he never won a triple crown, but lead the league in HR and RBI 6 times and Batting average and HR once (didn't get the RBI title that year)

Oh god, Ruth never played against black players, many black pitchers were far better than the white ones of that era. Ruth deserves an * just like Bonds today playing a juiced era. From the time Jackie Robinson played to the time Jose Canseco put that needle to his arm was when you can truly judge the best batters. Before then we don't even consider Negro League players in this list, you better believe I'll mention Josh Gibson when we do catchers.

Ruth played against blacks in barnstorming games...want me to dig up some stats for you?  i have them here somewhere on my hard drive, I save alot of baseball information.  I know Ruth hit a few dingers off of a wellknown Negroleaguer "Cannonball" Dick Redding who was one of the top black pitchers of the 20's

I also have some stories on a game between Ruth and the 1920 Giants @ Havana Cuba against the Cuban allstar team with Cristobal Torrienti, in the most publicised game Ruth actually got outshined by Torrienti

ofcourse Ruth treated the trip to Cuba as a vacation because he actually owned several cigar factories down there lol

and before he died, Buck O'neil said Babe Ruth (an old babe ruth) hit a home run off of Satchell Paige in a barnstorm game in the early 30's and Paige had a little kid go retrieve it so Ruth would autograph it for him.  Buck is a very credible source but he's the only source of this story so it may be made up...

you know like I know that some scrimage games are different than being in a league and pitchers learning to play against someone. Ruth was never fully tested as he could have been. He hit hard, great, people were in awe of him, of course, he was the biggest name in sports then. But his era was not a true test to baseball. The Negro League peaked in the 20's, it had it's greatest players. It's different to be like, hey I'm Babe Ruth, want to play, and going up against Babe for a chance to make the playoffs. You know that and I know that. People would respect A-Rod if he went to Cuba and played, but those same players would go so hard if they had on a Red Sox uniform that the game would change.

umm basiaclly, barnstorm games were taken seriously by the blacks/cubans and the whites were like "hey were getting paid to come play in a new country, this is fun"  (way before Cuba was fucked up ofcourse)

ty cobb only played one series EVER against blacks in his life...winter of 1910 in Havana Cuba against a LOADED cuban-negro allstar team with HOFers Pop Lloyd and Jose Mendez, and should be HOFer Bruce Petway, Pete Hill and Grant "Home run" Johnson

it was a 12 game series.  the Tigers won it 7-4-1

cobb missed the first 7 games because he was dilly dallying in Key West, and Detroit (minus Cobb) was in a struggle, tied 3-3-1

Cobb shows up those last 5 games, hits .370 (7-19) and Detroit wins the series easily 7-4-1.

cobb was frustrated by Petway (the catcher) beacuse he never got to steal a base all series, and it was known going into the trip that the Cuban team they were playing was notorious for pushing back the base/bag (they didn't use the same bases we have) to make it harder to steal a base....he argued with the umps, called them cheaters and vowed never to play against blacks again and kept his word as far as I know lol.  never got to steal a base (thrown out 3 times) and walked off at the end of game 12 pissed hahahaha.  that was Cobb for ya.  the best player on the planet, but a total prick.

you must keep in mind the black population 100 years ago was alot smaller than it is now, the pool of talent was probably 5 times less than now.  and the white athletes weren't focused on basketball and football, so the white majors was stronger than you'd think.  in the late 1800s early 1900s you can argue the best athletes were in the olmpics but by the 1910s and 1920s BASEBALL was america's past time and every kid wanted to play ball.

don't debate baseball with Hack, he's not here to bring down your favorite hero.  he just wants you all to respect it's precious history.  it is was it is.

Babe ruth never played in the times of 300 foot fenches, steroids with GENIUS chemists at his side, video tapes on pitchers, body armor, better nutrition knoweldge and medical help...etc

we can sit here and play the "what if" game all day, that's not gonna get us anywhere.

Hack another thing about the shot Ruth hit off Stachel Paige, Buck O'Neil said it was the only time he had seen Paige speechless.
