Are any of the Guillens related? Like Jose and Ozzie?
« on: August 04, 2008, 09:43:04 PM »
I only really follow the Royals and don't know much about the rest of the league, but the Royals played the White Sox last week and got into a big brawal and I noticed Ozzie Guillen is a lot like Jose Guillen.  He curses and talks shit in his interviews and is portrayed as an asshole who is very passionate about the game, great competitor, and successful for years in the league.

Jose Guillen has brought a lot of controversy to KC saying "I don't care about the fans"..."I like playing on the road better"... "I like when the fans boo me"... LOL. But he's  leading the Royals in production so who cares.

I also noticed theres a few other Guillens around the league.  Anybody know the story on the Guillens?

Guillen is a common last name.  If you were watching the game, don't you think they would make a big deal about brothers facing each other?  Most of the time Stephen Drew came up to bat, Scully would talk about his brothers Tim and JD, so I'm sure the Royals announcers would be no different.

Jose Guillen doesn't even have a .300 OBP, if I was a fan I would still be pissed about the signing.  David DeJesus is doing much much better than Guillen.

Guillen is doing exactly what the Royals signed him to do.  He is providing a big bat, power, and run production. He leads the team in power numbers, home runs, RBI's, leads AL in doubles.  He's  on pace to easily surpass 20+ homeruns and 100+ RBI's.

And your right, Dejesus may be playing slightly better over-all but that doesn't mean Guillen hasn't been giving the Royals what they paid for.

And I'm surprised you mentioned Dejesus... because the real surprise for the Royals is rookie shortstop Mike Avilles who was player of the week last week and is hitting over .340, with some power too.  This guy spent 6 years in the minors and now he may be rookie of the year and compete for a batting title if he reaches the number of at bats required.

I know about Mike Avilles, but I went with the overall best player of the season. If he continues to rake, maybe at the end of the season he will have done so good that he might be the team's MVP even with the lesser amount of playing time.

Your team didn't sign Guillen to be a below average hitter though.  His low OBP is really hurting him, and he's creating a lot of outs.  Even if he gets 20 HR and 100 RBI, it still doesn't take away from the fact that he's making a lot of outs.

when he was on the Angels, he had a great year and signed for cheap. A great complement to Vlad Guerrero who also was in his first year as an Angel. The only problem, Guillen basically dissed Mike Scioscia and that didn't fly as Mike benched him, then released him after only one year. The next year he tried to start a feud, but the Angels got the better of his teams.
