......and I realized that half of the kids there were born AFTER the Chronic and even Doggystyle.I was doin a football game there, and everything was cool...nobody trippin or anything, but when I was going through my songs, I realized how old I am...or either how young the kids are. Most of the dudes there still seemed to know the songs....I guess it's the same way that people my age knew all the 70's and early 80's songs that dropped before we were even born, but it's still a wild thought to me. It seemed like the girls weren't into these kinds of songs as much as the dudes...I know they probably just want to hear Lil Wayne and Jeezy all day...but at least the youngsters knew about the old tracks.I think it may be different at other schools though...if I did a HS event somewhere in the suburbs, the kids would probably look at me like I was playing some damn Barry Mandelow or somethiin. For y'all...does it seem like the youngsters know anything about, or care anything about the 90's music?
I dunno, basically everyday allday I used ta spin nuthin' but dat westcoast heat and shit thats poppin' for yea whip and I ain't care I was like pushin' it on 'em. But I learnt the hard way growing up so to say as a dj, that you gotta play shit that people'll dance too.So that basicially is not even weezy/jeezy so much but Ye'eezy,Gwen,Eve,Jigga,Biggie,Pac,Nelly,Chingy,Pitbull,Lil'Jon,+ add anything hot at the moment, top 40 charts.Even people mainly chicks from tha hood too when they go out to a club, they wanna dance not throw up sets an' throw bows unless the song is calling for that and it's dancable like 'southern hospitality' or 'drop it like it's hot'.So basically I give them that 'hot shit' that they can dance too, and then after the dance/club I pass 'em a 'hot new dj.thirrzty mixtape' w/ some dope g-funk/new-west shiznit on it as they leaving. So they get the best of both worlds whereaver I go. I actually dj'd this wedding last friday before I dj'd a dance and they asked for 80's/90's rock all nite, so that's what I gave 'em. I dunno I specialize in WestCoast Hip-hop and Hip-hop/R'N'B in general, but if they paying an' I gotta bring out a wide arrayment of ish? Than that's the work part of it. Finding shit you ain't feeling but keeping an open mind about it and spinning it and having fun anyway.
damn i don't know my dude,i can guarantee you, if you dj'd any high school party or any type of house partyright now, playing them old school west coast jams still get it cracking.this is for sure, i can't even count how many times ill be at a party in compton, south central, east LA, La puente, baldwin park, watts, or even up at the loft parties in downtown, fuck it even at clubs in hollywood, and the dj will drop "aint no fun" and shit will go off like a mother fucker.
Yo mayne I've heard young people say Tupac is wack and over rated... That shit be blowing my mind when they say that. Some of the youngsters know the super popular shit like Dre and Snoop but I bet about 80% of them ain't listened to Dogg Food. Like you said Wayne and Jeezy.
