dre's only a pawn to jimmy iovine, dre spots talent and if iovine dont like it it's gone no questions asked, dre doesnt play a role in aftermath as far as any of the business goes the higher stake belongs to iovine so he gets the last say on everything

Even if they signed, they propably never would've released an album on Aftermath.

None of the artists you mentioned would likely have gotten to either 50 or Eminem's status. The Dre beats certainly didn't hurt either artists' careers but if you look at them and even Game, they all had the right package going for them as far as marketability went. When 50 came through, he was the hero of the mixtape circuit who had the streets on fire, he had the story of being shot nine times and living, and he was going at Ja Rule who was so overexposed at the time that the public was begging to see someone tear him apart. You add that with the fact that he was being co-signed by Eminem, the hottest rapper at the time, and Dr. Dre, a producer whose track record speaks for itself. It was nearly impossible for anyone to see how he wouldn't make millions for everyone involved. Both 50 and Game came out at a  time when they had lots of industry and street credibility and were co-signed by a big-selling and well-respected team.

And for the record, every person you mentioned in that time period was signed to another label. He did lots of work for Xzibit and Knoc Turnal but those labels weren't gonna just hand them over so it was what it was.

Truth Hurtz was a Dre flop.  "The Big Bang" was a Dre flop.  Hittman never tookoff.  Knoc'Turnal never tookoff on the Dre beats.  His beats on Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" were wack, the beats he did for The Game's "Documentary" album weren't even the highlight tracks.

What has he done lately? Could someone tell me??

Kanye West, Scott Storch, Cool & Dre, Swizz Beatz, Lil Jon, Mannie Fresh, Akon, and DJ Khaled are all way better producers than Dre the last 5 years.

Also, these producers don't take 8 years to drop an album of 15 tracks  ::)

Erm, no. The ones not highlighted possibly but Dre's input on Documentary and Big Bang was pretty dope as far as I'm concerned.

Name 5 beats Khaled himself has done in 5 years. And him yelling over the track like DJ Clue 98% of the time means he didn't produce it. Swizz still owes money for stealing Casio instrumentals.

Terror Squad "Nothing's Going To Stop Me," "Gangsta" on Fabolous' album, "Beat Novacane" for Fat Joe, "I'm A G" for Rick Ross, "Get It For Life" by Fat Joe, "Standin On The Mountain Top" on the new album.

DJ Khaled is Global now, go listen to the track "We Global" now, he made it! He's paid! Florida stand up! He did it man. He took it from local Miami to mainstream now all around the world.  Florida has a bigger rap scene now than what we do out here in Cali.

Dr. Dre is a forgotten entity. The only Dre people know are "Cool & Dre."

It's a shame it had to get to this level, but Dre did it to himself.  He hired these ghost producers and now he can't find anyone to duplicate their sound like Scott Storch and Mel Man.

Maybe this is why Detox hasn't dropped... probably waitin for the right beats to come up....

Its a money making machine when u think about it, the delays keep up the hype and when it finally comes out, its gonna be 100% quality, and one fucking high sellin album.

I hope you're right cause the rap game's done a 180 since "2001" dropped in 1999.  And it seems like forever since the days of "The Chronic".  We've seen big names fall off out here like Richie Rich, Messy Marv, MC Eiht, DJ Quik, Celly Cel, Spice 1, Jayo Felony, etc.  Snoop can make hit records like "Life of the Party" but he can't sell like he used to.  We're in the era of youtube, text messaging, downloading, and ring tones.  People wanna see that quick fix hit.  And I don't think Dre can provide that with his style.

MTV is no longer the platform or medium to promote your album.  The concept used to be simple -- make a fancy video and spin it hard on MTV and watch it fly off the shelves.  With Busta Rhymes album "The Big Bang" they tried that and now he's on the same list I have in the last paragraph.  Big flop.  Now you gotta have a unique raggae/dance tone with a little fun hip hop to it.  Otherwise, you can just take the album and put it underneath the garbage can because even the garbage man don't wanna waste space in his crib on that.  It's about being able to catch the fan -- instant hits like instant potatoes.  Dre ain't that style -- he's slow, he's really really slow, and he's redone this album so many times which says he's unsure about himself.  Detox went from being a follow up to "2001" with all the Aftermath regulars to a musical play with tracks like Crooked I pretending to be Dr. Dre ("Say Dr. Dre") to a new concept album with live drums to what we're hearing now with Lil Wayne, G-Unit, and Eminem.

So even Dre doesn't know what he wants to do with this one.  The economy is in a little rut, the MTV spin your video concept doesn't work, he doesn't want to use Akon and T-Pain to try to make a hit, and now he's labeled as the "older artist" like we've seen Ice Cube flop.

I think the only way he sells is if he can reinvent himself and market his face hard and I don't see him doing that.  When he was on Death Row, they ran MTV and he had the image of the badass on "Nuthin But A G Thang" pourin champaign all over the hoes and packin a strap in "Dre Day."  He's 40 years old and seperated himself from that, how is he going to invent any type of image plus compete with downloads, ringtones, and Akon & T-Pain.  I just don't see it happening.  The rap game has really evolved in a different direction.

Real talk man. The problem is the market is just way too different, as you say, to 2001, and we got a bunch of fans who drive the commercial rap market who are hella weak and favour weak music. People can shit on Dre's recent cuts all they want, but dirction of rap seems way too much to be:

1. Make a hot beat
2. Sell that shit quick n make that money
3. Never hear of that track again

The era of "a story behind a song" or "emotion" behind a song is totally gone. Its seriously just churn out as many "club-bangin" beats and make your money as quick as you can and as fast. I guess in these economic times lol, it a good thing, but there's no real artistic integrity in that. Where did that go anyway? Where the fuck did using real samples and not some weak ass synth shit go? We lost that in 2000 it seems.

There's a reason why we all still talk about Dre's material on here. Heck there's a post on the main forum page about what ya favourite cut from The Chronic is. Dre made classics, and in today's era, it just wont be appreciated. Too many of the producers u guys mentioned below simply made one-hit wonders that no one remembers these days, or can be fucked playin again like a real classic would.

For all I know, what I believe is purely speculation, I'm just figuring a recoridng of Detox in, say 2004, would just not sell now cuz the beats dont reflect the time period. The rap music game is changing so fast, and if I can quote somethin of that "Welcome to Death Row" DVD I watched again today, Dre is really "a true artist"... and in today's time period, a true artist just isnt appreciated.

Who knows when we'll see Detox, or another real Dre album, but I'm kinda not surprised we havent seen one so far.
