Chad Vader's review of Scarface; Emeritus

Scarface - Emeritus-(Non Grouprip)-[Explicit]-2008

01. Intro (Feat. J. Prince) Produced by Mike Dean
Classic J.Prince intro... He always got some shit on his mind.
4/5
02. High Powered Produced by N.O. Joe audio link
Tight beat, love the transforming (scratch effect),not sure about the hook. It's a little corny, but it has grown on me (it leaked months ago),so I let it go  :P
4/5
03. Forgot About Me (Feat. Lil Wayne & Bun B) Produced by Cool & Dre audio link
Don't really like the drums on this, the soul sample is dope though.
1.5/5
04. Can't Get Right Produced by Nottz
Wow,Nottz produced this? Shit got classic organ synth that Houston is known for (especially UGK). Bilal and Face blend with the beat perfect.
4.5/5
05. Still Here Produced by Nottz
Ohhhh, wow another tight Nottz.... the beat is out of this world. Loving it,again Face kills it.... and the hook  :o ohhh weeee.
4.5/5
It's. It’s Not A Game Produced by Illmind
Dope pounding piano driven beat,I can´t believe it.... Face, the hook....  :o :P and the breakdown on the third verse, loving it.
4.5/5
07. Who Are They Produced by Illminimalistic
A minalistic beat, but still jamming.... and nice to see K-Rino getting Don'tshine. Don´t sleep on K-Rino,he´s tight.
4/5
08. Soldier Story Produced by Tone Capone
A smooth track,I´m a little bothered by the high hats though. Might be grower.  :P ;)
3/5
09. Redemption Song Produced by N.O. Joe
Dope, but again it sounds like a grower.
3.5/5
10. High Note Produced by Jake One
A feel good joint.... could easily be a single if it wasn´t for the explicit content of the lyrics
4/5
11. We Need You Produced by N.O. Joe
Loving the "submarine sounding synth".... I´m sure there will some controversy over the content of the lyrics.  (it´s about Lil Troy)
3.5/5
12. Unexpected Produced by Sha Money XL
I love pan flutes, shit sound so nice over Hip Hop beats. Needless to say that Face kills it  ;)
4.5/5
13. Emeritus Produced by Scram Jones audio link
A little "messy" beat, but dope never the less.
3.5/5
14. Outro Produced by Mike Dean
Same as intro... it ends the album nice.
4/5

Conclusion and overall rating;
Let me start off with WOW,this took me a little off guard.  :P
For those that know me here, they know that I´m a critical ass .... in my opinion most albums these days is on some average ass shit or below that.
Lets be real, when cats think Ego Trippin´is dope, you know that the state of Hip Hop is in emergency  :P .
So when Face delivers a stellar album after a close to 20 year long career,it naturally took me off guard.
Not that there´s any reason for me to doubt Face, but you know....  :P
It´s easily one of the best album's of 2008,but it´s too early to rate it fairly either way.
If I look over my track by track rating,it´s clearly a 4/5 album.... but somehow I want to give it 4.5/5.  :P
But I go for 4/5,only time will tell if it deserves a notch up  ;)
Rating; 4 out of 5

I'm a huge Face fan.  For whatever reason I have lowered expectations for this album, however reading yours and others comments about it I'm optimistic.

Yeah for some reason,I didn't expect much from it either. Shame on me  :P But then again, nothing is better than when people take you by surprise.

1. Intro Ft. J. Prince & Prod. By Mike Dean - Dean provides a solid beat..Prince talkin' real game on these fools. = 4.5/5

2. High Powered Ft. Papa Rue & Prod. By N.O. Joe - Cool ass beat. Love the hook for the most part. Great song. = 4.25/5

3. Forgot About Me Ft. Lil Wayne & Bun B & Prod. By Cool & Dre - SICK beat from C&D; didn't think they had this in them. All 3 MC's kill it. Wayne stepped his game up. = 4.75/5

4. Can't Get Right Ft. Bilal & Prod. By Nottz - Cool ass beat. LOVING the organ synth; unreal. Shit is dope as fuck. = 4.75/5

5. Still Here Ft. Skateish & Prod. By Nottz - Yet another great beat from Nottz. I was losing confidence in dude but he came tight on this album. Crazy ass hook as well. = 4.5/5

6. It's Not a Game Prod. By Illmind - The piano is hot. Face kills shit as usual. The girl is great on the hook; wonder who it is. = 4.5/5

7. Who Are They Ft. K-Rino & Slim Thug & Prod. By Illmind - The beat is cool. Face kills it. FINALLY (since all y'all want it), Face & K-Rino on a joint together. Rino came tight as hell with his verse. At first glance, I didn't think Thug would be able to hold his own, I couldn't help but think a 3rd verse of Face & Rino exchanging bars - Slum Thug impressed me, held his own. = 4.75/5

8. Soldier Story Ft. The Product & Z-Ro & Prod. By Tone Capone - Young Malice killed his verse, dude is DOPE. Z-Ro dropped an ill hook. Willie Hen came cool with his verse. ofcourse Face murdered it. = 4.75/5

9. Redemption Song Prod. By N.O. Joe - Cool track. Probably the worst song on it so far though. Not bad at all though. = 4/5

10. High Note Prod. By Jake One - Not really checking for this kind of subject matter from Face, but it's still solid. Beat is hot. = 3.75/5

11. We Need You Ft. Wacko & Prod. By N.O. Joe - Beat is sick. Wack hook from Wacko though (no pun intended). - 3.5/5

12. Unexpected Ft. Wacko & Prod. By Sha Money XL - Sha Money came correct with the beat. The hook is alright. - 4.5/5

13. Emeritus Prod. By Scram Jones -  Crazy ass track. Face sounds good over this old school NY style beat. Crazy last song. = 4.75/5

14. Outro Prod. By Mike Dean - No talking, just the beat playing. GREAT outro-type beat though. = 4.5/5

All in all, GREAT album. Only on 1st listen, but I would say album of the year. The tracks i loved, i LOVED and know that already. Possible growers - tracks 9,10,11. Rest is crazy.

Face is the greatest to ever do it, period. No rapper has a discography as consistent. This is the perfect way for Face to gracefully bow out of the game.

Damn, can't wait to hear this. I'm going to wait 'til Tuesday, though when I pick this up. Would be nice to hear an album fresh on the release date instead of spoiling it w/ a download once in a while :)

Goddamn, that Forgot About Me joint is sick!  Shit hits son....

I've now listened to High Powered, Emeritus, and this joint and I'm not gonna listen to anymore.  I officially have heightened expectations for this album and will be copping on Tuesday.

That's Luna's job... I'm the grumpy one remember(?)  :P
Come to think of it,that would actually be dope review concept.
Luna would be the exited one and I would be the critical one. Go track by track, then meet up with a balanced conclusion at the end.

are reviews are relatively similar on this one though. that should tell y'all something.
