If you go listen to storch and j flexx and daz and big hutch they all still make beats that sounds like different eras of dre.that's because they were dres team at one point.I'm not saying dre isn't talented the man has an outstanding ear for music.without dre all theser guys are is a decent best and most of these musicians like storch would still be playing keyboards some where.the reason you see mike elizondos name as co producer all the time back in the day but will never see him do something himself is he's nothing without dre.same way dre is nothing without his team.but together they make beautiful music

The term producer is fairly loose and what a producer does in hip hop isn't the same as say rock.I look at dre like a rock producer.a person who produces say the new linkin park album doesn't play all the instruments or even come up with the melody.he works with the artists to Better their sound and make it sound co hesive.which is what Dr dre does.hence why when he said what's he production method I said exatcly what he does.he produces the tracks but he doesn't play the instruments or make the beats he has a team that does that.that's the differnce between a beat maker and Dr dre

the answer is in the music. if dre did nothing then the people who are supposedly doing the music would be doing exactly the same kinda shit without him. scott storch is a great example of a producer who has tried to copy dre's sound from one particular period (he was actually part of it too) but to a good ear you can hear the difference between a dre and a storch production easily. that's not to take anything away from scotty though, he's got some really tight stuff on his own too.

Right to a degree....

Dre does do a lot of his production with live artists, this is true.....

Scott Storch is a piano man (as Timberland called him) he plays ALL HIS OWN SHIT!!!!!
He's not real big on sampling, at least not as much so as Dre is.... Dre started out wit samples....

right now, I would consider Scott Storch to be one of the most talented producers in the majors (so this doesn't include the kid down the street from you who's production is bananas...)

From what I've heard on Dre's production is that he does typically start with the drums.... a lot of producers do(including myself).... the Snares and the kicks will usually set the tone for the track you are trying to create, so if they're not right, the rest of it won't be either....

But, there is something to be said for starting with your melody first, however it does require more technical knowledge of music, to make it sound good.... Fresh Out Producers should stick to the drums-first method....

again, from what I hear, Dre usually goes to the melody after the drums, then the baseline.... which is a method I'm starting to adopt.... it actually makes the baseline work better if you create the melody first..... at least in my own experience....

then insane amounts of mixing, and badda bing, badda boom, you got a beat.... of course this is all hear-say....

But in hip hop the term producer gets thrown around so loosely most people don't actually know how to produce they know how to make a beat
