I'd also like to point out that Van Basten's strike was from nearer the edge of the 18-yard box than the 6-yard like the one you added mauzip.

Not quite good enough to be considered for goal of the season.

I always wondered how much of those curves are fluke and how much is intended. can soccer players really shoot like that time and again in practice and teach others how it's done like pitchers can with curve balls or to a lesser extent billiards players can?

If you kick the ball on the valve (is that the right translation?) it can make a weird curve. It can also make a curve depending on what part of your foot you kick the ball with it. This player didn't intend to kick it like that though. The ball could have easily gone somewhere else.

Someone that plays soccer himself could probably explain it a little bit better than I can.
