Jags vs Colts
« on: December 18, 2008, 09:51:20 PM »
Who saw the fucking clinic put on by Peyton Manning tonight? And people wonder I get so mad when someone says he's not the best right now. 29 of 34, 360 yards, and 3 TDs in a game with no defense (except those two great 3 and out stands at the end) and no run game to speak of. The Jags knew he was going to pass, they locked up the WRs almost every play, and perfect pass after perfect pass gets the job done.

Marshal Faulk said it best with "Here's why I call him the best against others, especially against Brady..."

I don't mean to hate on Brady but I get defensive when a guy I know isn't as good gets put in the same category. This wasn't like the Pats vs Jags last playoffs where Brady's big number completions were largely due to completely wide open guys and no pressure on the QB. When I see Brady make throws like that as many times as Peyton did tonight I'll give him his due but I have yet to see it. I'd imagine in 1990 when Detroit just finished their two NBA championships and someone says Isiah is better than Jordan. That's how I feel. I just hope the team is good enough to get Indy 2 or 3 more SBs in the next 7 to 8 years so then he really will be the Jordan of Football.

Fucking guy may actually win MVP after tonight's outing. Fucking brilliant. You could see the NFL Network analysts blowing their loads talking about it, while Sanders was their with his sour puss not being able to admit Brady may not be this good.

Sorry in advance to all the BRady fans I argue with here. But I'm on a high after that win.

Anyone who watches Manning every Sunday (Thursdays too!) knows that he is in a league all his own. If he were in Boston he would have won 5 or 6 straight SB's. He audibles every single down, and then slices up the defensive package every time. My only sadness about having Manning here in Indy, is that when he is gone, retired, traded ect, it will not be nearly as fun to watch the game, because there may never be a better QB than him. He is in a class all his own. Brady is a hell of a QB, and should be a hall of famer, but IMO he is not fucking with Peyton. Thank christ we got the bowl win in 06 to take away ANYONES doubt that he could "win the big one".

The problem the Colts have is can count on that kind of brilliance every playoff game. No one can be that good in the playoffs against playoff defenses when you can't run the ball and can't stop the run. However, if Manning was able to play 4 straight post season games like he played last night and win the Superbowl that way, all the Manning vs Brady talk would disappear. Sadly, as much of a fan of the guy as I am, I don't even think he's that good that he can pull that off.

Canada plays NFL Network games on TSN, our nation wide sport network. Too bad for US. I've seen the highlights and they don't do it justice. I know the first 17 for 17 or 18 for 18, whatever it was wasn't the record but 14 or 15 of those passes were very tough fucking throws. The TD's weren't anything special; Wayne wide open because of blown coverage, dump pass to Rhodes, and Clark alone in the back of the endzone. However all three of those were possible because of Manning's decision to stay with the run despite losing yards almost every time with it. That third and short sweep that ended up with no FG may have been a bad move but with out it the Jags never would have thought run on other plays and since they tasted blood on them so many times they attacked run and the play action pass got them each time.

Imagine the Superbowls if you guys had drafted him.

Brady would have gotten raped alive in that game. Brady goes out and the Pats are on pace to hit 11-5. Where do you think the Colts would be with Matt Cassel this year? Tom Brady is simply incapable of making the throws Manning can make, the two to Clark Brady would never even attempt, and Manning read and broke down that defense with play after play. Brady has never been able to do shit when the going got tough with out Charlie Weis telling him what to do.

Maybe. I don't like to compare QBs from different eras. Now I'll take 2000 to present Peyton over 2000 to present Favre, but Favre's best years were in the 90s (he's still been amazing since 2000 though). Just like I don't compare Peyton with Marino or Montana. And how do you compare current QBs with Unitas who got smashed to the ground at the end of every play because roughing the passer didn't exist?

I won't argue Manning in his prime over Favre in his prime because Favre was unreal in his prime, ad whatever step back I may think he had in intelligence vs Manning he made up for in pure talent over Manning.

Maybe if Manning gets injured Brady will pass him but no way is anyone going to catch up to a healthy Manning by the end of his run. He's in year 11 now and he's only gone under 4000 yards twice, and both times he was one game away from reaching it, and he's never gone under 25 TDs. You can talk about x-factors and leadership, and all that jazz but statistically Peyton Manning is by far the best ever, if we are just talking numbers.
