I never bothered listening to his albums but I thought what the hell ill give it a listen he does have a decent flow and voice.I must say I was not impressed with either album.I found his voice bored me after a couple songs as it was so monotone with no real change up.you could look past that if he had lyrics but he does not.All the production and guests were predictable and boring on both albums.Just my thoughts anyways.

to be honest I can not agree with you because rick ross came with a different perspective lyrically speaking about the dope game, different from the other mc's talking about dealing. He came with WEIGHT, dealing weight, and you could observe that in his 1st album, port of miami. Even the title is a bit interesting, because all the major deals in drugs are made in the port. So if you were used to  lyrics  like "he graduated from the middle of the street to the corner"  Rick Ross comes talking about "Noreaga, the real Noreaga, he owns me a hundred favors" . This is why he emerged so quick on the scene, "Speedin'" "Maybach music" the prestented life of a "BOSS",  one who's "dealing weight" in the sense of Miami dealing... I mean that's almost hollywoodish for rap game.
His talent comes from originality. He got the looks for the music industry, because this is the boss' image created these days "a big fat powerfull man in a maybach affording to trade a $20,000 watch for not getting a speedin' ticket"   plus, his creation lyrically is really...DOPE :))) no, really he's tight for what he does.

that's my opinion.  Holla @ dawgz

But it was all make believe I can't respect that. And besides shyne already talked about moving the whole major wieght thing on his debut album.to each their own I just found his style tiresome after a couple songs.he never switches up his flow and never says anything half way interesting

yes, it's about the same tempo on the album, but it's his style. that's what makes him boss, and the voice it's great for not saying much, i mean talking about bussiness all the time it's a great voice, but make him rap some lyrics of KRS, I don't think it would sound any good, because you don't know him like rapping something like that, you know him as rick ross, his own style

Well that's how I felt after listening to his two albums.I had only heard him on a few scattered guest spots and I can take him in limited roles like that. But a whole album was a bit much.

I like Rick Ross. "Port of Miami" was a great album imo, one of the most memorable debut albums in the last 2-3 years imo. "Trilla" disappointed me because it was 2 mainstream for me. I really like Maybach Music, Luxury Tax, This Is The Life & Here I Am but only those 4.

With that said, "Deeper Than Rap" is shaping to be a mix of "Port of Miami" and "Trilla" which will be a really good thing. "Mafia Music" is the shit and sounds straight out of "Port of Miami", great opening-type track. Those four songs I liked on "Trilla" all had a really mellow flow to it which Fits Ross well; with that said, "Magnificent" and "On Top of The World" remind me of that flow and should be great album cuts. "Cigar Music" was pretty hot as well.

I can't wait for "Deeper Than Rap."

Never got into his stuff. I like a couple singles here and there but other than that I'm good. Got a great ear for beats.

I liked most of his first album, bought it back when it dropped... Trilla I liked 5-6 songs, and I like a few of his newest joints that are supposed to be on Deeper Than Rap

Ok, if you say so, name me some who did that before him "a million times better" . The one's who are known as big rappers IN THE INDUSTRY, not artistic, thanks to what they rap about, that being street dealing, dope game, etc.  I don't think someone like Mack10 got the same economic feedback from his albums, and Rick Ross only has 2 plus the cocaine documentary which is DVD, that's also selling,  I don't know Mack10 having videos with maybach's and fast boats wearing expensive shirts, being next to one of the most succesfull bussinesmen, that being Puff Daddy.   Do not forget that i'm only speaking about that from the industrial point of view.  Mack10 keeps it hood next to Dre and Ras Kass on a real crack ass boat, and one of my favourite tracks ever, BUT it's the attitude, I mean as long as you will "keep it hood" you will be far away from getting out of it.  Street dealing vs "Atlantic, I'm in the distribution"        so it's like this actually   "i make more deliveries than the postman"     vs  "I'm in the distribution, I'm like Atlantic, got the pretty things flyin' across the Atlantic"      so my point is How big can you think? Is he dealing WEIGHT ?(industrially, it's a good selling icon in the rap game, and fast to the top? like what...3 years now already?)  Yes he does !
+ we gotta respect everybody, those who makes it easy and those who work hard for it, so... much respect to Rick Ross for planning his image and making his money !
