it was a tweaked version of the beat composed explicitly for use in the video.  after linking up with oliver stone (natural born killaz was debuted after the credits in the theatrical release of the movie for the lucky people who stuck around until then) dre was exploring making epic videos, for lack of better words.  the nbk video had a few beats in it, muder was the case, cali love, been there, etc.  the og to cali love was dre with sneed on the boards.  2pac recorded to the instrumental we all know.
