yeah man, I only listen to my ipod on random shuffle...I don't listen to full albums anymore, but anyways last few days songs like Up Jump tha boogie, and doggyland, You thought (Me and My Doggs)...and I am just thinking how great these songs are.

I bought doggfather the day it dropped and was heavily dissapointed.  However, hearing it now, it may be a classic to me...easily snoops 2nd best album.  Every song on the album is dope w/ the exception of freestyle conversation.

My favorite songs are Downtown assassins, OJ Wake up, Groupie, Up Jump tha Boogie, and Gold Rush

I think its more telling of the music quality of today. The fact that this album was widely regarded as mediocre back then can be considered his second best album is telling how far music has fallen.

I think everyone just heard it once and expected to have that same doggystyle experience which obviously was just not possible, I mean it happens with a lot of artists who have smash hits for the first album its really hard to follow up...

This album is fucking banging from beginning to end.... my favorite track is 2001 that song bangs

"All I want to do is make the whole crowd bounce yall"

Oh yeah and back on the topic the gold rush would have made a great single but I'lll tell you what the video for Vapors is fucking classic shit... Snoop got the whole crew together and they all looked like they had a good time. I love when snoops rapping up on top of the V.I.P record store or whatever, and when he says "they treated me like a wet food stamp" and it just shows those dudes herbing him. Not to mention that white hummer is gangster.

Naw I disagree.  Comparing this to music today...well I can't even do that...that is like comparing a MLB team to a highschool team...just in way different leagues.

Standing on its own, Doggfather is a great album.  Even now when I compare it to Doggystyle, it is still a great album.

I try not to get the the mode of comparing artists albums with each other. I think like what others have said when you follow up Doggystyle with this, there is a HUGE difference.

With that said, I have always digged Tha Doggfather, Gold Rush also as a track. Kurupt was KILLING the guest appearances back then, he would outshine Snoop on every track he would jump on. Lyrically on point on this one also. Production was dope with Pooh, Sneed, Daz and others, really showcased their abilities.

Gold Rush I like how it had a theme, the wild west and how they put a twist on it.
