Ten years later....would Hittman really have made impact?
« on: June 03, 2009, 10:01:08 AM »
It's almost been ten years since 2001 dropped (please, no Detox comments here LOL)...and the main thing everybody was talkin about at the time was Hittman...everyone said that he was to that album, what Snoop was on the Chronic.

It seems like a lot of us were mad that nothing ever happened with him after that, and aside from the clip at the end of the "Forgot about Dre" video, he was never heard from again commercially. A few of his songs leaked, and that street album he had leaked, but that was it.

Lookin back now, 10 years after the hype and all died....do you really think he would have made a major impact? When I listen to this album, I think he was a GREAT role player, and helped the album out a lot...but to say that he was anything near what Snoop was to Chronic is borderline clinically insane. I don't think anything about him really stood out in a major way, and he wouldn't have become a legend or even a major factor for the West...and this could be why Dre focused attention on 50 and other cats. Wait, yeah I said it...50 was much better at what he did, and Hittman would have never been half of that.

yeah Hitt just really didn't have 'it'. He never really stood out to me, I was looking forward to him dropping album just cause anything dre puts out is hot IMO but he really wouldnt be anything without dres backing.

The same thing goes for Game, I mean the dude is no more talented than anyone coming out the west. The only thing that seperates him from everyone else is the Dr. Dre stamp of approval. Same thing with Bishop too, like I sade don't get it twisted I like what Game does and I like what Bishop does but its really all about the Dr.

As far as I'm concerned he didn't have a major impact. The fact that he couldn't even capitalize off of being featured heavily on a Dre album shows this. I think any other rapper who had that opportunity would've ran with it, even after being dropped from Aftermath. At the very least he could've been doing the independent thing and keeping some of the buzz alive. Instead he disappeared off the face of the earth and dropped one album 6 years later without doing any kind of promotion. Rapping just isn't in the guy otherwise he would've been releasing new material in the 10 years since 2001.

He didn't have that "it" quality in terms of Snoop but I'm sure during that time period 1999-2000 if he dropped an album the shit woulda been classic based on the track record Aftermath had during that time.

Hitt's Big Score and Not These Niggaz Again, albums I wish that were made. Instead Dre decided to release Truth Hurts  ::)

Who can say for certain. It's all about opportunity. Honestly, if you remove hindsight from the equation, I doubt anyone would have believed that Game would have done as well as he did. Hittman was heavily featured on 2001 but he definitely wasn't as prominently featured as Snoop on The Chronic. When Chronic dropped, Snoop was already introduced through "Deep Cover". He was being pushed as Dre's protege. He's on the intro. He's on the first two singles. He's all over it.

When 2001 came out, it was a much bigger project and there was more going on. People were interested in Dre and Snoop being back together. Eminem was clearly on his way as Dre's next big protege. You had the Up In Smoke Tour and the N.W.A. reunion was making headlines. Hittman wasn't on any of the 2001 singles/videos, outside of the end of "Forgot About Dre". He wasn't much involved with the tour. He kind of got lost in the mix. As far as the 50 Cent thing, that's neither here or there. By the time, 50 was thrown into the mix, it was late 2002 and had almost been three years since the album dropped. The momentum was gone at that point.

i beg to differ: hittman is definitely above average to me; same goes for bishop.
Dre can make artists better though.

hittman might not have become a major star, but we'll never know.
not to mention that i'm more interested in good music, than the next big thing.

I'm sure he performed; I remember people at the time talking about it.

There were a load of other artists who performed that weren't featured on the DVD, like Tha Eastsidaz.

judging by the tracks we heard that were supposed to be on his aftermath album, it would've been a commercial flop. the album is cool and all but would not have done any numbers. i can see why it didn't get released. on the other hand, i'm still confused about why dre didn't drop the king t album.

How can you consider Hittman a great rapper when he hasn't done jack since leaving Aftermath? At least Bishop has been releasing mixtapes and doing things this whole time. And I'm sure if he is dropped from Aftermath he will still be doing his thing. If rap was truly in Hittman's blood you would think he would have been putting out music since then. But how much have we heard from him?
