In a recent interview, Ghostface has announced his next album will be more straight R&B because he feels like he's getting too old to keep doing albums about crack.

“I don’t sell crack, yo. I ain’t movin’ no bricks or none of that other shit. I ain’t shoot nobody in like…since the early 90’s, man. I always have a hard time buying into that "in the early 90s NY I was a killer" nonsense. There was like 1 million black males in NYC back in the early 90s. At it's peak there was like 2000 murder a year. So an absolute total of 10,000 people were killed in the early 90s New York. That means that 1 percent of the total black population is equivolent to 100% of the total murder victims of New York City in te early 90s. Yet 100% of rappers from 90s New York claim to have been shooting people, or have been shot at it.


Sorry, I just don't buy it. I grew up with guys who are currently in and out of jail for shooting people. They don't even say it out loud that they did it. They'll never go on a newspaper say it. But I know a lot of guys that have never fired a weapon that would say it in a newspaper and do say it all the time in public. They are liars. And Ghostface might be one too.

I hear you, of course the rap scene is something of a show as opposed to reality, I mean you need only look at Biggie's upbringing to realise that he was never "from the hood". I know people who have skirted deeply on the wrong side of the law to, in fact I inadvertently became friends with a couple of guys who have done a lot of things lol but yeah they aren't stupid enough to shoot their mouths off over it. Maybe shooting could mean injuring someone but yeah I doubt a lot of these people, shouting your mouth off, claiming you have commited these crimes out outside of songs, could lead to further investigations being launched couldn't it?

Ghost also went to jail for an armed robbery after 36 chambers came out plus a few other incidents involving some dude from Mases old group "harlem world" as well as roughing up some loud executive

To be honest, there is nothing real about rap, everyone exaggerates, so the content is not the problem it's more about the way they do it, if they were to approach it with something fresh, then it would sound dope. What really irks me is the idea that something is "played out", it's only played out if the individual doesn't have the lyricism or the ideas to turn it into their own as opposed to recycling.
