Yes & No...

Pop By Definititon Is : Popular Music. Right Now Hip-Hop Is Popular That Cant Be Denied.

Pop Music As We And Others Define It Is Music Thats For Kids That You Hear On Radio & TV All The Time. However With Rap Being Popular With Those Age Groups Right Now We See Some Rap Artists Alot. That Includes Dre, Snoop Etc When They Release Something New.

On The Other Hand Dre Isnt Pop Becuase, IMO, He Doesnt Make Music With The Same Intent As Lets Say Nelly Etc. Of Course He Like Others Wants To Sell But I Dont Feel Its The Complete Sell-Out Like The Nelly's Etc Of The Game Right Now..

Just An Opinion Though.

POPular he is, but POP music he (or his music I should say) is not, not by my definition of POP anyways. Dre has had his foot in the door of what is popular music for a long time now, and since 90% of his material is on the same level of quality as his past material he still has a large fanbase who will support his releases. You have to remember he's been in this game for a loooooooooooong time now, and i'm impressed with his longevity, I don't think he should be simply labelled pop just for the simple reason of him still selling, he's always made hip-hop music that people in general can enjoy, it's not his music we should be questioning though, it's peoples tastes that have changed what with hip-hop becoming one of the most popular genres nowadays.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

May I'm not really in the subject, but I'll give ya my opinion of Dre :

I think when Dre started with N.W.A. he was a fucking bangin' rapper/producer. After also with The Chronic he was at one of his best level ever ! His produces 4 Death Row were also bangin'. His way down went after he left Death Row. With his wack compilation "Dre Presents Aftermath", Eminem, Chronic 2001, Rakim etc. Even if his production level was quite good, he went down a lot & started to be to commercial & didn't make really bangin' beats like he did before. The way down is still going & he says he's a G & goes and cries to the cops that he's afraid of $uge, (he singed "Fuck Tha Police" in 1988, hum no comment). For me Dre he may maid the rap go further in the beginning, but now he's a bitch.

That's my opinion & I'll not make just friends wit it ;D ;D

Peace

If you mean his production work has gone down i agree for a bit (though he's still veeeeery good) but i don't think you should be comparing the Chronic and 2001 because these are totally different. The Chronic was rebellish and he desired to make himself feared by his enemies,2001 is done from the observing OG perspective as it mainly expresses his thoughts about the (then) current rapgame. It's like comparing apples and oranges
My word spreads like weed or crack because my word is DOPE!

Pop is not a genre, it is only what is popular at the time. The "King of Pop", Michael Jackson wrote Rock n Roll songs, and that kind of Rock was popular then, in 91 it was Kurt Cobain, with another version of Rock called Grunge. Dre is sought after as a producer because he has been proven to help sell records, Jay-Z once brought onto an album to simply rap the chorus, not even do the beat. He is Pop but that is not necceserilly a bad thing.
