im not a history buff... but all i know is... when i first heard T-Pain in early 2000s...... with that in love with stripper and bartender songs... i was ... that niggah using the roger troutmen shit..... i know auto tune is actually different then what he did cuase he had the keyboard and air pipe thing..... but... wtf..... that sound was such a West coast thing in the 90s.... now everyone using it and its geting hated on.... i still ike it... but i think only certain artists should use it...

Auto-Tune and A talk box ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT. tired of people getting them confused, but Auto-Tune was something the south made popular. well actually before that it was already being used by Pop artist so they can since on pitch for the song.I don't know how it honestly carried over into rap so well.

Talk Boxes make you sound electrolyzed and was made popular by Zapp and Roger (Its also a commonly misplaced fact, that they created it, when Talk boxes go way back).

Auto-Tune was developed to effect you're pitch, and was made mostly as a fail safe for popstars. The effect's are sometimes confused with talk boxes, if the Auto-Tune is heavily over used. But auto-tune isn't a talk box. but yeah, I can see how you would make a mistake.

but no, west coast deserves no credit at all for auto-tune. This happened way past our time, we had Talk Box in our songs. Mostly they were sampled by Zapp and Roger, and rarely did the artist use it. Infact Zapp had become a huge artist again in the 1990s cause he was featured on a lot of tracks were the talk box was present. T.I. I think was one of the few to actually use the talk box, were as others had Zapp come in. (Zapp and roger was dead around this time if I remember correctly)

Antares deserves the credit for auto tune. I'm sure their success is bittersweet though, considering all these niggers just completely overused and abused it to the that it affects the collective creative offering that black music possesses (or did)

What you're thinking of is the talk-box. I always thought Peter Frampton was the one of the dudes to popularize the talk-box, then lotsa folks used it after; Most notably Zapp.

Vocoder, you probably hear that in techno-type songs and faggy boy band shit from the 90's.
Auto-Tune is different than talk-box, AT is some software shit.
