8 Mile OST Disapointing...
« on: November 06, 2002, 09:01:45 PM »
Well, I'm not gunna lie...I was kinda disapointed with the "8 Mile" Soundtrack...After HIGH expectations, and all the praising the soundtrack was getting on this board, I expected nothing less than a 4.5/5...I finally copped tha album yesterday, listened to it once, and felt like it wasn't what it was hyped up to be...Now I'm not gunna lie and say it's whack, cuz I think it's a pretty solid album... but after Infinite said it was a classic, I was expecting something amazing...There are some dope songs but some whack one's too... The best songs on the album are "Lose Yourself" (which is already played out) and "Rabbit Run"...

I was disapointed with "R.A.K.I.M" because the beat was horrible...The snare drum was just off beat like whoah...The singing in the backround is just way too loud...Rakim made a huge mistake by rapping over this beat...It made him look bad...

I was disapointed with the song "8 Mile" because it's just way to monotone and repetive...One of the worst Eminem songs I've heard in a while...It's just the same flow over and over, and it's way too long...It gives me a headache...It sounds like a scratched CD skipping or something....

I was disapointed with "U Wanna Be Me" because Nas can't produce for shit...Nas needs to stick to rapping on the real...This beat sounds so damn ameture...It's so empty...There's no bass whatsoever...Sounds like some kid made it on Fruity Loops in 10 minutes...The song just seems empty...Nas should keep away from the production tables...

I was disapointed with Obie Trice's rapping...He has nothing that captivates my attention...Just the same old shit...And his flow is off beat at times...

I was disapointed with 50 Cent because people say he's the next to blow up, but I can't understand how he can blow up when he sounds like a wannabe Fabolous? Sure he's a good rapper, but he's not what he's hyped up to be...Just the same ol' shit...

I was disapointed when I heard Bizarre's verse on "Rap Game"...That's gotta be his worst verse EVER...I couldn't even understand what he was saying...

I dunno, I just didn't feel satisfied when listening to this album...It's a cool album, and I'll give it that, but not what it was hyped up to be...3.75/5...PeAcE

Yeah, I agree with alot of that, ESPECIALLY the horrible RA beat.  What the hell were they thinking? YOU HAVE TO BE ON BEAT. ITS A RULE.

I like the Macy Gray song, I like Wanksta, and a few other tracks, but on the whole I don't like the album very much at all.

Yall are open to your opinion but did you see how many units it pushed?  According to Billboard it pushed 702,000 units..that is astronomical for a soundtrack.  To put it even more in perspective (and to put an end to an argument on whether bone is dead or not)-Thug World Order pushed 82,000 units.
I only gave you the crown, so I could shoot it off your fucking head-Suge

I find it hard to even listen to the Rakim song.  I agree with everything except "Places To Go" is my fav. off the album.

Yeah, I agree with your points NIK, except about 50 Cent.

And as you would say:
We hiphop-heads consider this soundtrack pretty good, but whatever..

Oh, I'm sure it'll sell huge... It's a techno album, LOL they always do good anymore.

Just kiddin', but does anybody else think Aftermath has generally gone towards a techno/rock stance since Eminem got 'creative' after his freshman album?  All of the beats aren't funk or bass anymore, they're always like some machine computer soundin' stuff.

50 Cent only sounds like fabolous cuz they both sound like mase....50 is just a thugged out version of mase...point blank period...people shitted on fab for it...no one says it about 50 cuz em thinks hes tight(yall know thats the truth...cuz the moment em said Dre from outkast was a good mc everyone said the same)....when he was underground very few people even brought up his name...he was just another disgruntled rapper trying to make it big(hence the song with destinys child)....

I like the soundtrack, the dope songs are DOPE but there are some very weak tracks which for me include the Jay-Z/Freeway track, the 50 Cent solo "Places To Go", Young Zee....those are the tracks I skip almost everytime. I really like "Wanksta", "Love Me", "Lost Yourself", "8 Mile", "R.A.K.I.M.", "Battle" and "Adrenaline Rush", they are worth the purchase alone imo, and the rest are listenable but don't really interest me too much, including the Nas track which I thought was way too slow, kind of draining, not a good move for Nas.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

There is nothing wrong with the Rakim song, his rhyming is amazing. He does not have to go with the beat when he raps that good.
You people rely too much on beats, hip hop is not about that, if you want to listen to beats, get into another genre of music. Rock, classical, old RnB, Jazz, Blues are all better musically than hip hop. Rappers should be based on lyrics and lyrics alone, until they start playing their own instruments and start writing their own "music", I will only judge them lyrically. (which is why Nas is better than jay z, sorry I had to say it)

Soundtrack was overrated by the Eminem nuthuggers on this board...I mean it's a pretty good album but dudes are saying its a 5/5 WTF?...Lose Yourself will never get old to me even though it's played out its easily the best song on the album...Rakim beat is horrible even though Rakim shows that he can't be fuked with on the mic...Obie Trice is fukkin horrible wtf does Em see in this cat...Eminem and Rakim come dope on this but I ain't feeling the other cats too much...And I can't for the life of me figure out why 50 cent is so big right now...This cat got more fans on his nuts than Jay-z in NYC right now and that's sayin alot...

50 Cent shines on the album...so does Obie.  Production is weak...nothing like "The EMinem SHow"...plus their were no Dre beats.  Also, it is a soundtrack...whihc means fillers.  So you shouldn't be THAT dissapointed.

I agree with Em having an impact on the Aftermath/Shady sound.  Em does incorporate a lot of rock influenced stuff.  Plus "Places To Go" and "RAKIM" do have techno/video game feel to them.
