i'm talking about Barry Bonds, the man with seven MVP awards & the guy who won four straight.

& the funniest part, he doesn't even have a ring.

What are you kidding me? Of course Barry is the best player, of at least the MVP era. He was a beast in his prime. Griffey if healthy the whole time may have had something to say about that, but it didn't work out that way.

It is hard to argue.  The most impressive thing for me is 500+ stolen bases, that is honestly just disgusting for any player to have let alone a player that also has 762 career Home Runs.  Add 8 Gold Gloves and 7 MVP's to that and you are definitely talking about one of the greatest athletes in the history of sports.  Bonds should have 9 MVPS also, he got robbed in 91 and 2000.  We will never ever see another player close to Bonds.  Arod and Pujols are great but not in the same league.

Hist first MVP was in 1990 and his last MVP was in 2004.  LOL that is absolutely insane, if that is not an example of longevity and great consistency then I don't know what is.

It is also absurd to compare a player from the 20's to now.  Bonds is EASILY the greatest player since Willie Mays though and possibly the greatest baseball player in the history of the game.

You know whats so sad about Barroid.  If it wasn't for his ego and and jealousy without a doubt he would of gone down as a top 10 player of all time.  Instead he was jealous of McGwire and Sosa and now with all his accomplishments he may not even get voted into the HOF.  When so many were juicing before him, he was still the best player in Baseball.  And that still wasn't enough for him.

Babe Ruth faced many Negro League greats in barnstorming games that took place during the regular season.  Lets see todays player take on the schedule of players in the 20's.  On top of not have the modern amenities and advances in medicine that they have today.  Babe Ruth one instance faced Satchel Paige in a barnstorming game.  Ruth crushed a home run off him.  Buck O'Neil said it was the only time he had ever seen Paige speechless.  And people talk about blacks not being allowed to play.  While it was just whites in the game at the time.  It was the best of white athletes playing Baseball at time.  The other sports were no where near as lucrative as Baseball and didn't take as many kids away from the game.  You also only had 8 teams per league which didn't stretch pitching out nearly as thin as it is now.  And even during that time Babe Ruth feasted off the best Baseball had to offer.  During his career Babe Ruth on a couple of occasions played through injuries that now a days would have players on the DL for a month.  He also lost many home runs in the late teens and early 20's due to some ridiculous rules in the game such as if a ball crossed the fence fair but landed it foul it was a foul ball.  Now granted you can bring up the short porch in RF in the old Yankee Stadium which I think was 298 down the line which no doubt aided Ruth at times but historians through tedious research have shown Babe Ruth's power was to the gaps and not down the line.  A legit argument can be made for Barry being the best of all time but I think it's Babe and I think its ridiculous when people try to dismiss Babe Ruth because he didn't face blacks during the regular season.  


With all that being said... arguments like this are what makes Baseball >>>> any other sport.

That is certainly true.  I think the majority of people would also say that Willie Mays was the greatest all around player ever.  It's pretty neat that when Barry was 5 years old, he was playing catch w/ Willie Mays before Giants games.  You are destined for greatness when your Dad is a 300HR/300SB athlete in the majors and your godfather is Willie Mays.

There is no denying Ruth's dominance.  The majority of fans say he is the best player of all time.  From the 50's on though, the majority of fans where tell you Mays was the best overall player ever.  Ahh this is what is so great about baseball, I love these discussions!!Yo Wykid how you feeling about your Dodgers right now?  I honestly think the Giants are gonna have a bad year next year, our ownership makes me sick.  Worst lineup of all time   (Besides Pablo)

how do i feel about the dodgers?  lol...well, id like to walk into that front office and choke the living shit out of frank and jaime mccourt and then send that piece of shit colletti back to sf.  lol

i think our core is good enough to give us 1st place, but i dont expect us to do much in october.  we just arent built to win the WS right now, we're only built to contend...especially with our penny pinching ownership   

thank goodness we've had some luck in past drafts, otherwise we probably wouldnt even be contending.

no way any pitcher is getting away with that in this day and age.

i mean, the lack of training & working out & the fact they had regular jobs in the off season; i don't know, it always made me question.

could Babe hit a Johan Santana? or a mid-90's Randy Johnson?
