Like I said, own it. Or don't...but either way Canadians are gonna look ignorant and cowardice like usual.. Or ignorant and crazy like Kenny Powers. You guys get to decide, its a new decade.

When I was in Mexico City this year no white man got points for being Canadian. I was told all white people are usually ignorant, especially canadians for their lofty ideals of whats right and wrong in the world. They are "extra liberal" and most educated people from Mexico feel more comfortable in Boston, Miami, or Los Angeles than supposedly "progressive" place like Vancouver, BC. Canada is nice and all, but in the grand scheme of things, they're like Donnie from The Big Lebowski trampling their way awkwardly in to arguments. Theyare out of their element. Unless the discussion is hockey or medical marijuana. Which I support both of.

Vancouver's a weird place.  Half the people that live here weren't born here.  You can't generalize a group of people like that.  Living here for a year won't give you an idea of what it's like to be from here.  That's 2 completely different things.

There's a long history of Vancouver (and all of BC) doing everything by itself.  On a national level, BC is pretty much ignored.  We are under represented in parliament; we pay more federal taxes and receive less for it.  Historically, BC is excluded from a lot of national matters.  This is something that people from here have to deal with.  People who immigrate to here don't really know that.

So everything we have, and everything we've built or done has been largely on our own with little or no help.  So of course we are very proud of everything we accomplish.

On a personal note, I'm excited and proud that we have the Olympics.  But there's a lot that I'm unhappy with; the logo for example.  That rock man thing has absolutely nothing do to with Vancouver.  I have never seen one of those in my life.  Secondly, the opening ceremonies were horrible.  Every big event that Vancouver has, you can count on Sarah McLachlan and Bryan Adams being there.  We can do better than that, they're old and irrelevant.   I'm just glad Nickleback wasn't there.  Secondly, half the opening ceremonies were about the rest of Canada.  Fuck that, this is the Vancouver Olympics.  I don't give a fuck about the wheat fields in Saskatchewan.

The best part about having the Olympics is the economic boost Vancouver is getting right now (and has been for the past few years).

I heard on the Jim Rome show that in the history of the Olympics, only twice has the hosting country not won a gold medal.  And BOTH times it was Canada.  That is pretty fucking funny.

Also I remember when the Olympics were in Salt Lake City a few years ago, there was this crazy stat about the number of condoms either used or sold each day or in the time period of the olympics.  I can't totally remember it, but it was insane.  Something like a million condoms a day were used in the city when the olympics were there.  You can probably google it.

Anyways, I myself am not a fan of the winter olympics, but I do think it would add something to the city and be kinda cool.
