Author Topic: can LBJ or Durant stay in the league long enough to break Kareems point record??  (Read 445 times)

OG Hack Wilson

lebron has 14,700 and will probably get another 500 this year

if thru ages 25-33 he can score 2,000 points each of those years (9 seasons) that is another 18,000.  that puts him at about 33,000.

Kareem finished with 38,387....meaning lebron would need to play long enough to score only 5,400 points.  if he scores 1,200 points a year in his mid 30's for 5 years he has the record.

and Durant is still a youngin' but he is amazing.

The problem is the style difference. Kareem could play so long at the level he played because he used his height, not stopped or strength as his greatest advantage. The way Lebron plays he's going to burn out soon, and if he has enough career accomplishments he'll probably retire rather than be the #2 or #1 on a bad team. Unless Lebron is really close when he starts to fade I don't expect him around long enough.

^Exactly. It didn't take much physical energy/strength to shoot skyhooks. But like everything else, it all depends on wether LeBron (and Durant) can stay healthy.

if MJ had never retired in 93/94 and had stayed around a few more years in Chicago he would have easily got 40,000

I've got to admit, even though Durant is only a newcomer he seriously looks like he's good enough to be a hall of famer by the time he retires and maybe even more. He's practically dragged the Thunder into serious playoff positions almost single-handedly.

i'd say yes; they can, not that they will.

i mean, nigga please, Kobe is 31(?) & you mean to tell he isn't going to score at least 20 ppg for the next five years?

LeBron will be scoring the way he is until he's 35; don't give this burned out shit; he's genetically different; 6'8'' with an IQ of a genius & a build that the game has never seen before.

then after 35, he'll be dropping at least 20 a game until he retires.

Durant is still a child, he could still develop a jumpshot above of beyond Kobe's; & working from the outside like that will be an ease off his shoulders for this "burned out" shit.

these two are above & beyond the rest of the game right now, so even if they "burn out", they'll just be at the same level as most guys & not that "special guy" anymore; still capable to drop points.

all given there are no injures for either.

I have no reason to hate Durant himself but my bitterness towards that orgianization makes me hope that he gets a career ending injury.

i meant Basketball IQ, but if you still don't agree, i don't know what to tell you.

arguably the best passer in the league & he's the size of some Power Forwards.

the only part of his game you can kind of question is shooting 3's opposed to driving it in late in the game; but if he hits that shot with more consistancy, you won't hear an argument from me.

The who thing is how long will they play and play at the level they want. The Jabbar record is very beatable. A lot of the greats could have passed it if they decided to play. Jordan left, came back, and left again. Larry got hurt but before the injury he would have broken it if he stayed healthy and played as long as Kareem. Lebron's point per season are closer to Larry's than Jordan's. Even if he can still play I'm not sure I see him sticking around at 35 unless he still hasn't one a ring by then.

Yeah but that has more to do with coming right out of highschool. He's no where near Jordan when you compare points per games played. After about 500 games each Lebron has 1000 less points than Jordan. Every full season Jordan started with the Bulls he finished first in points.

I never questioned his game mate don't take what I said as an attack. All I'm saying is genius is a word thrown about too easily. I'll start believing when he actually wins something. People are very quick to hand out genius titles.

i feel you, homie.

he's easily proved himself elite though; he lead a team with virtually nobody on it to the Finals a couple years ago; he's nearly averaging a triple-double.

anyway, yes; both LeBron & Durant can stick around to break the record; but i don't think both of them will.

it's hard to believe that we're witnessing two players, playing at the same times breaking the all-time scoring record.
