dre chronic 2001
« on: December 16, 2002, 07:29:02 AM »
ok I didnt like chronic 2001 when it came out as much, in part because I was looking for the g funk sound kinda like the dre's first album and doggystyle, but you know classics are made over the years...some albums sound good when you first listen to them ex. kurupts space boogie, but the classics are made in time..when you listen to a album a couple years later and think damn this album was the shit back then, the beats sound better over the years as well as the lyrics... I now find myself wonderin' why dre or any recent westcoast producer  cant come up with these type of beats, kinda like when I wondered why dre couldnt come up with the doggystyle and chronic type of beats...classics are made over a period of  time!!!

True dat, but I knew after first listen that 2001 was gonna be a instant classic.
the beats on 2001 blew out the whole industry, and the sound was totally new.
That's why it's so difficult to come up with a total new sound, and I wonder if it's possible with Detox.

If Detox has the same impact as 2001, then Dre will probably be considered among the most inventive producers ever in any genre..
Maybe he will if Detox isn't innovative too though.

It cant be easy coming up with a totally new & dope sound that will change the whole music-industry for years.. and that's why we don't get Dre-albums every year or two.

and thats exactly the problem.................dre was real quiet befo 2001 dropped basically, when it did drop though.........it did change the game

but since then dres been pretty active and the game has changed alot sicne then, new ppl comeing into it and so on............thats why detox is gonna be his most difficult record ever to produce for dre...

i think 2001 was incredible. i still listen to it quite a bit and i still think that stuff is great. just like i still pull the original chronic. i guess i try to listen to it for what is  it. i try not to compare (hard to not to do). you know, what makes him great is willingness to not release everything. i remember a post a while ago about how much stuff we  will never hear from his vault. and while it's sad, i'm glad that i do get a taste. it's frustating. its such a long time between albums. i think some of what some would call dre's "weak" stuff is stronger than a lot of crap out there.

atleast we will have a "preview" of detox through rakim's and cube's albums... i'm excited to  see where he is with his sound. but many how i miss that gfunk sound... i'm dying for some of the shit!
