Champ MC_-_Ghetto_Flava_(Prod_EA-Ski)

Ok homies and hom'ettz..

I wanted to treat the board to some really RARE EA Ski production that was NEVER RELEA$ED sorta like Earthquake wasnt released.  This album was fully pressed, packaged and sent to retailers.. but East/West pulled out at the last minute.. (sorta like you young bucks, first time in the poon'tang)

http://www.artistdirect.com/store/artist/album/0,,205036-513957,00.html

Believe it or not, this was the first album to feature HALF EASTCOAST production by Tony Dofat.. known for his work with Heavy D, Monifah and Soul For Real.. (Uptown Records) and HALF WESTCOAST production handled by THE GREAT EA-SKI'ZZZY.. known for simply puttin down that REAL GANGSTA SHIT!!!!!!

She got her start as 1/5th of the Wu Fam Five Deadly Venoms which consisted of: Champ MC (aka Shorty the Scorpion), Finesse (aka Chameleon), J-Boo (aka Viper), and N-Tyce (aka Poison). Dispute exists over their Wu affiliation but their management maintains that they are still a [breakaway] part of the Wu, and are still connected with "Protect Ya Neck" Records. Most members had semi-successful solo careers before forming as a group. The Venoms were originally signed to "A&M" Records and had a planned release called "Antidote". The album was recorded but label disputes forced its cancellation. They were later signed to "Dreamworks" and completed a new album, this time called "Pretty Thugs". Advanced copies were subsequently leaked, but again it was never released to the public. Their main producer is Storm (of "Protect Ya Neck" Records).

Anyway.. enough of the blah.. blah.. check the scans.. and hit a brotha up if you want to hear some HOOOOT classic EA Ski shit.  Everyone but Nino is welcome.  Lookin out for my TRUZ!!!!!

Axle
P.S. I know I still owe yall them Ka'Nut scans.. gimmie a pass ya'll.. Imma get to em.  Thanks.

Yo What's up Axle, let me put you up on some info about Champ. This project is real close to my heart, since I worked for East/West Atlantic (back when Missy was part of Sista etc. etc.) and worked on getting this project to break outside of NYC.  Actually this goes  to show how record labels will spend large amounts of money on a project and just let it go and recoup it as a "tax write-off."

East/West Atlantic actually released 2 singles "Keep Shit On The Real" and "Sistas Betta Recognize." They also shot videos for both that were released. "Keep Shit..." was remixed by Pete Rock and there was a video for both version (Pete Rock and Original). I happened to be in the Pete Rock version of the video (as if anyone cares, lol). But a lot of fools were hatin' on Champ, because of the East/West mixture and personally she killed all them tracks. I remember talkin' with one of my homegirls who worked at East West and the great DJ Mister Cee came through to pick up some records and we talked about Champ and he said that a lot of folks, especially DJ's were not feeling her, because "she didn't know if she wanted to be east or west-coast" I disagreed and told her that's the problem with artists, they are too "regionalized" and they need to break out of that and this was a good litmus test to show that, we debated, but we still stuck to our guns. I did disagree with how East/West approved her video of lo-lo's up and down 42nd Street and all up in the Bronx, but shit, it's the norm to have Low-riders in East-Coast artists videos.Champ caught a bad one on that. I felt that they should of filmed a version in LA and the Pete Version in the Bronx and blend the two, but that fell on deaf ears. If more heads were more open-minded to what she was tryin' to do, then she might of been the east-coast version of Yo-Yo. But the industry and public fell in love with The Brat at this time (when her first album dropped on So So Def) and just left Champ in limbo. This type of thought permeated throughout the industry and since she didn't create enough a buzz for the label, they dropped her I think it was a month or less before her scheduled release date. She got a lot of love from heads here in Cali, I think more so than in NYC, but that maybe debated.

Actually Champ got her start battlin' and takin' fools out at the weekly/monthly Lyricist Lounge battles, when they first started in storefronts and she was in the Source's Unsigned Hype column, based on the reputation she gathered for battlin' and winning all the time. After she got dropped she went back to the Edenwald PJ's of the Bronx, became a mother (which was a few years after she was released from Atlantic). I was at this time working for Razor Sharp Records and when Rza wasn't handlin' his business like he should of is when this whole Prtoect Ya Neck Records thing occured (THAT whole situation, is a movie in itself). People parted from The Wu and all these "affiliates" sprang up.
Anyways, I guess for money and trying to get back into the game, they paired her up with them other two females (who are really wack, the story about those two is funny as hell, but too much damn typing as it is), but Deadly Venoms didn't go anywhere, they tried to get some media by sayin' that Sprite took their whole idea about the commercial Sprite did with the "other" Venoms (the chick with eyebrows that was down with Jay Z, I think Missy, and two others, that was so long ago, I forgot). But I'm glad she is still in the game.
Yo Axle if I knew how to upload and record shit, I would send you some remixes and tracks that never made the album, that Champ gave me personally as well as the videos, but everything is on tape and I don't know how to transfer all that stuff. But where did you get the CD? If you have any extras let me know. All my shit is on tape.

What's crackin' Nima, well I know she didn't get dropped cause she was pregnant, because I was still workin' on this project, when Sylvia Rone pulled the plug on the project. And Champ was smokin' so much weed and drankin' when we worked together, her baby would of been fucked up at birth, lol, but I know she got pregnant after she was dropped.

Also Niggaz Murder Mine is based on a true story (one of her homeboys was killed by a rival PR crew). Neighborhood Sniper is about a dude who was takin' people out from the rooftops of the PJ buildings in Edenwald (Bronx).

Oh and the first single was "Keep Shit On The Real (original and Pete Rock Remix) b/w  "Stressin' Me" and the second single was "Sistas Betta Recognize" in fact Micheal Speaks was an artist that East-West signed and was getting ready to launch, but they dropped him too. In fact he was found singin' in the subways for money. He was homeless at the time and I thought he would be very successful, but they let him go pretty much right after they dropped, Champ.

Oh it's cool dog, no harm done. Damn, keep that shit right there, I guess it's out here in the country as a cut out in a bin. You really did some crate searchin', lol. This may seem funny, but I'm still tryin' to find the retail released 12' of ATL's The Streets. When we were at Tommy Boy, all we had was the white labels, and I'm trying to find the cover art for that album, so if you come across that before I do, I'll drop some cash your way, cause nobody has it anymore. Peace
