very over rated as a candidate for GOAT

I hear you about the o line, etc.  Yeah he had a lotta help.

BUT, I don't really agree totally with that knocking him down a peg because look at Jerry Rice.  Did he not have great players around him, and you don't really hear people using that against him when people call him the GOAT.

--- End quote ---

Yeah. I mean I definitely think emmit benefited from that o-line. He was averaging over 2 yards per carry before even being touched. He was very overrated. But I also hate how people are so quick to crown Jerry Rice the greatest WR ever. WR is the most dependant position on the field and Jerry had Montana and Young throwing the ball to him. He was great. But he SHOULD have been great. Compare that to what a receiver like Tim Brown did with QBs like Todd Marijuanavich and Jay Shraeder throwing him the ball

--- End quote ---

That was my issue with the 100 greatest. You could argue Ride the greatest WR no doubt. He could do it all, but if had been on the Bucs and had been just as good he would not have had 3 rings, woulkd not have lead the league in yards and TDs 6 times and if let's say Steve Largent or Art Monk had been the #1 in San Fran they may not have reached #1 player all time status but they may have been ranked just as high as where Rice ended up.

Where as Jim Brown was doing what every other back was doing, except he did it so much better he has to be the best.

--- End quote ---

Yeah, Jim Brown was a beast. I still have Sanders as the best running back ever. He was just insane....playing for a shitty Detroit Lions team. I can only imagine what he would have done with that Cowboy O-line that Emmitt got to run behind.

--- End quote ---

He would have done worse probably. People would respect the run so much that it would leave 9 in the box at all times, and Aikman would have looked like Marino and Manning combined.

--- End quote ---

lol not a chance. Youre gonna tell me that he would have done worse running behind one of the most dominant offensive lines of all time, with a great QB and a great passing offense to take pressure off the running game....than he would playing for the lions who absolutely nothing BUT him. Where defenses would DEFINITELY stack the box cus there were no other real threats....AND....where the team wasnt typically playing with leads like the Cowboys were...so the running game could be taken out of the mix by halftime.

Well, I was half joking, but the only thing I think would really get higher would be his TDs, but from what I've seen and I've seen a lot of Emmit games since I was a kid there wasn't much else to do. He was still an amazing runner and while I don't think he would have had Barry numbers on Detroit I don't see how any back really does all that much better than he did on Dallas. I'll say this, Barry may have ended up being the only 2 time 2000 yard RB in those two season Emmit had over 1700.

However he may have been enough better than Emmit for the Cowboys to commit to the run from te start in the NFC championship game against SF and that may have made them 4 straight SB champs.

That last run against the Patriots alone was better than Emmitt's career lol

I do not want to make it seem like I'm an Emmit guy at all. I don't even think he was as good as Thurman (Emmit). I'm just saying the way the Cowboys were built there was nothing more that could be done. Like if Peyton played on NE all these years he wouldn't have to show off his needle threading ability to quick decision making like he does on Indy. So a lot of these circus runs that Barry did on Detroit wouldn't be there in Dallas. Just like a lot of Peyton's 35 yard in coverage bullets wouldn't exist.

But in both cases Peyton and Barry would contribute to more rings.
