Why is the east coast more pac influenced then the west?
« on: January 23, 2011, 02:19:26 PM »
i just noticed that everytime a rapper gets compared to pac( dmx,50,jim jones, ja rule, nas) its a east coast rapper. why do u think they wanna be like pac instead of making more biggie or jay-z influenced music. its like how yukmouth said how the east coast niggaz wanna be like pac just wondering what do yall think about this. n why isnt pacs influenced heard in west coast rappers? the east has the artist i mentioned in rappers from the south like no limit, young jeezy, trick daddy, young buck etc are all heavily pac influenced. i aint complaining just wondering are the east n the south his biggest markets?

because pac is an east coast cat who just vacationed out west

plus, there's actual reasons why 50, ja, and nas have been related to pac.

ja for one pretended to be him.
50 beefed in a similar fashion to pac and even recorded some of his music and upon blowing up has referenced him
nas and pac had minor issues over artist creativity and "stealing" song concepts.

Pac once said, Im eastcoast born, but WESTCOAST raised. Pac being born in the EAST has shit to do with what he felt, especially when his family moved from place to place. Went from New York, to Baltimore, to California. He actually finished High School in Cali. Oh yeah, his rapping career also started on the WEST COAST, with Digital Underground. In his second album, he already had guys like Cube and Ice-t in his albums and in his THUG LIFE album he started his first group which included BIG SYKE who is a well known Inglewood native. Big Syke always said he influenced PAC in many ways. Not necessarily bad but introduced him to the WEST COAST culture. This is before he even started the OUTLAWS which also included Cali native Young Noble and combination of East coast kats. Nothing about 2Pac makes me think he is EASTCOAST. He is a WESTCOAST legend, who wanted to LIVE and DIE in LA. He continuously stated how he loved LA and lifestyle in interviews. How many fucken times did he throw up that W?? If you want to argue he is EASTCOAST because he was born therer, than Xzibit nor Kurupt are WESTCOAST either right? NOPE!!! It's not where your born but what you feel and love most. It's not like Pac lived a year in LA haha. He almost lived a DECADE in CAli.

I guess on the westcoast rappers could see through Pac and see the influences he incorporated in his raps... so he didn't seem so larger than life. to me Pac is first and foremost a Bay Area dude, that's where he came up musically wise and that's where he spent his teenage years, which are arguably the most critical in forming someone's style... like he said in "Gaffled Like That" with The Gov& Richie Rich "you're fucking with a oakland OG". Ray Luv said that they were heavily bumpin Mac Dre when they were both coming up... and he had also influences in southern cali, hanging around with Syke, being around Death Row etc. now we all know how bay rap gets no radio play on the east... so when Pac was adding his own twist to his influences,  that must have been something unheard of on the east... plus i guess some critically praised cats, or some popular cats period idolized and envied his larger than life charisma.

There are a few rappers that you can see Pac heavily influenced in the West : Messy Marv, Guce, Yukmouth, Daz.

But I think the main reason is that the people that bite 2pac a lot are people that either never met Pac or that Pac wasn't fucking with. SO they tend to idolize and idealize him more. Like in the South, Master P tried to rhyme like Pac a lot, and even bought verses after he died, and you can see how Pac influenced him... well P used to open for Pac when P was based in the Bay and it is said that Pac used to laugh at P and didn't fuck with him (Young Dre talks about it in an interview) when he was fucking with all the other major acts from Northern Cali like E-40, Spice 1, Richie Rich, Rappin' 4-Tay, Mac Mall or C-Bo.

The people who knew Pac must probably be aware that 2pac wasn't nothing like he said he was in his songs but still had mad love for him...

so it aint an east/west thing, it's just that the artists 2pac was friends with didn't bite him and the other who wanted to kick it with him but couldnt (nas, master p), or just didn't know him (ja) tried to emulate him so ppl could think they were like him. I mean it's also relevant for artists like Lil Wayne, T.i. or Trae... every hot artist drops a featuring with Pac or shouts him out in his lyrics...
