Video with Nate's father talking and showing pictures of little Nate:

The Voice that Captured the West Coast

"He got that himself and it came from his friend Snoop Dog. Now another of their friends tried to rap too. I don't know what happened to him. I think his name was Doggy Doggy. I guess all of them wanted to be dogs," said Daniel Hale, Nate Dogg’s father.

His death sent shockwaves throughout the hip world, hitting a sour note with one of his best friends, Snoop Dog.

After learning of his death, Snoop tweeted:

"Love u Buddy luv. U will always b wit me 4ever n a day u put the g n g funk u put the 1 n 213 n u put yo stamp on evrybdy u ever did it wit."

After years of providing explosive and countless hooks, Nate Dogg collaborated with several West Coast rap artists like Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, and Warren G, but his health forced him out of the studio.

Nate Dogg’s Declining Health

He suffered two strokes in two years, and had been bound to a wheelchair, paralyzed and speechless at a California nursing home. His condition was so bad, his father says he was merely existing, not living.

"That's all we could do in that condition,” said Pastor Hale. “It wasn't a disease or sickness. He wasn't suffering, he was just handicapped."

His Mississippi Roots

Nate Dogg was the fifth of 8 children for his father Pastor Daniel Hale. Hale moved the family to Clarksdale from Long Beach, California when Nate was just a boy.

Nate Dogg was a member at Life Line Believer's Church and even sang in the choir until he was 16. His mom played piano.

He and his siblings moved back to California with their mom in the late 1980's. Hale says singing was their life.

"They loved to sing. It's just a part of their family. Singing. It was just in his blood," said Hale.

Pastor Hale, speaking to FOX13 in his front yard in Clarksdale Wednesday, thumbed through the memories of when Nate was born, and when he was a little boy in the Mississippi Delta. While most will remember him for his distinctive voice, his father remembers how giving and caring of a son he always was.

"[He gave me] this shirt, these pants... He bought a lot of clothes and I would go out there and take them."

Hale says he will be making a 30 hour drive to Long Beach to make funeral arraignments. There is no word yet on if there will be a memorial in Clarksdale.

The saddest part about this whole situation is that it seems like if something could of been done to save his life, yet all his so called friends who are now crying wolf on Twitter and interviews didn't do a thing about it. I just had a friend who was in critical condition all kinds of machines hooked up to him starring at death in it's face but dude had an overwhelming amount of support. So many people went into his room and motivated him to get up and fight for his life and sure enough, he made it. It's sad to know that had his friends truly supported him and motivated him to fight Nate would still be here today. Killin hooks left and right. If he only knew how immense his following was, it probably wouldve made up the lack of support he received from his so call friends barring a few of them. R.I.paradise big Nate

He couldn't speak. He couldn't walk. He had two strokes. It's easy to theorize on all these hypotheticals. At the end of the day if your passion and livelihood is music and you can't even speak on your own, that's an overwhelming obstacle that a hospital visit from DJ Quik or a phone call from Dr. Dre isn't likely to change. I'm sure if cerrtain people don't visit you, it's gonna hurt you to your heart but you're not gonna give up living. I think you've seen way too many "feel-good" inspirational movies if you think having a bunch of famous rappers visit him was the difference between death and a full-blown recovery.

Recovery and rahabilitation are mental as much as they are physical and medical, Doc said his recovery was up to him and although I agree with you that when music was his life and being stranded in a wheel chair immobilized could seriously hamper any hopes
of a recovery it seems to me from the interviews that I read that he felt alone
with the exception of a few peeps that never forgot about big Nate, but this is honestly all speculation. However if this is in deed true, it's sad that he had to leave that way after everything the man did for music.

Having loved ones around to motivate you can certainly help lift one's spirits but this situation was real grim once news of stroke #2 surfaced. When everyone was on here complaining about lack of updates and hyping themselves up on the idea that he'd be up and making hit records any day now, I think they were looking at it from unrealistic eyes. We look at the people who entertain us as larger-than-life and super human so when bad shit happens, we think they will overcome it. When Pac got shot in Vegas, we assumed because he survived being shot once before that he would get through it no problem. We assumed because Nate was who he was that he would overcome two strokes. Having two consecutive strokes before your 40th birthday is SERIOUS. I'd be willing to bet if any footage of Nate in his condition leaked, all your hearts would be crushed. I like paint myself as an idealist as much as the next person but while I'm sure that visits and phone calls would lift my spirit temporarily in the dark times if I was unable to move or speak on my own, I don't think having famous rappers visit me daily would change my outlook on life much.

Perspective needs a little adjusting though. To you, these visits of famous rappers you mention aren't famous rappers to Nate. They were friends.
Just saying.

Yes, they were friends but so were a lot of the people who visited him. And the fact is a visit is still just a visit. It might bring temporary relief but in the end, you're still fighting your own battle when that person leaves. The fact is I can't even imagine having to suffer through all that and the point I'm making is to say Nate's condition could have been significantly improved by more visits to me underestimates how bad of shape he was likely in.

I feel ya man, but like I said, some type of support would have been nice and could have possibly meant the difference in him living or not. Im just speaking from what I've read which is all speculation. One thing is clear however, seems like he died an emotionally painfull death, which is extremely sad since he did so much for the music industry.
