There was an advance (it had the original, better version of 50 Wayz on it) that was either unmastered or mastered differently and I personally think it sounds better. I think I have at least some of the tracks from the advance laying around. I'll see if I can find them...

I'll see if I can find them...ok...if we're gonna use 'put it on me' for comparison. here is the track ripped straight off my cd @ 320kbps...http://www.mediafire.com/?rzrv174kh3ah195does this sound shitty to anyone? and can anyone post a direct rip of a clearer sounding version...off the training day ost or whatever? i got a feeling for whatever reason the UTI mastering could be overly boomy and lacking a bit of highs, but i really want to hear this difference for myself.
Quote from Quik about that album:"I'm switching back from that watered-down, corny sh-- I did with Arista. It wasn't just the whole Roger Troutman thing. Everyone thinks that's what it's about now — you gotta be real clean and linear. [My new album is] recorded in the fashion we used to do. The analog stuff, the old preamps, big microphones. It's a big sound. We're turning big knobs in the studio." maybe its the reason it sounds like this
I haven't had a chance to do comparisons yet but I really want to solve this mystery. If there's a pressing with better quality I gotta get that instead! I'll FLAC rip my UTI copy today. One thing I do remember though is that Put It On Me sounded better than most of the other tracks on my copy. I figured this was because they grabbed the mastered version from Training Day and through it on there so it was already done properly.
you people are fly-fucking...nothing wrong with the UTI disc. Quik just went analog with it
I have a promo copy of this album, but I think the sound is the same on all of them. Never really had this CD on in years
