not a classic to me. but very good album. i prefer other QUik-related albums that came out around the same time like Classic 220.

It's classic in the same sense that Classic 220 is a classic: one of the best west coast releases of the 90s, but barely anyone has heard it.

shame about the mastering situation but it's definitely an essential album here :bandit:

Mausberg’s album, Non Fiction, was released posthumously in 2000 on Sheppard Lane Records. Were you happy with the final product?

Oh, no, not at all! I wasn’t satisfied with the mastering. I spent a lot of money personally; maybe 40 grand in the studio [to] produce it right. When I finally mixed the record, I gave it to Stan Sheppard. He took them to this hole in the wall mastering plant. It made the whole album sound like an MP3 as opposed to the big, lush, analog albums we are known to make. So of course I was unhappy. We can’t even find Stan Sheppard to get the original master tapes.

listen to suga free's first album and you get an idea how good the album could of/should of sounded. doesn't ruin it or anything but it's still a shame.

if the mastering was better the album would be even more impressive.

i really don't see a problem with the mastering...sounds good go me when bumped in the whip. now, some of those bay area, home-made classics could use better mastering, but the "bad" mastering on this is barely noticeable. mausberg+quik=beast combination

And anyway Stan Sheppard is all over the net, he did have a column on dubcnn too.. I guess Quik just let it go..

Back to the topic it's a classic to me, no doubt!!! Been bumping "I can feel that" several times today, just love his flow on this track!

Never can get enough of Mausberg, he was so dope on the mic, had a presence that very few had, like Pac, spittin raw shit hitting you straight on your face!

Aargh I wish Quik would have released posthume material from Mr Mausberg but he's like "no I don't want anybody to hear it" fuck it Mausberg made his music to be heard not to sit in Quik's vault.
